I'm baffled that so many people can be turned off by SWORD FIGHTING AGAINST A METAL GEAR RAY! Since when has over the top ridiculousness become a bad thing?

I knew it wouldn't feel like Metal Gear but... I didn't anticipate this.

Everything about it just seems so wrong now. Free-slicing didn't even seem necessary as it seemed much easier to just go around using power-moves to kill everything. Make me think that stealth isn't going to be important either. And once you take that out, you've ruined Metal Gear.

On the other hand, though, I am glad they finally changed it to Metal Gear Rising as opposed to Metal Gear Solid Rising. It didn't really make sense the latter way.

EDIT:

It's not bad... it's just a betrayal to the series. Or, at least, that's what it feels like.

I... I really don't know what to think about this... I hope this doesn't turn into the splinter cell conviction of MGS. Granted, the changes in Conviction could fall back on the character of sam fisher and made sense that way, if they can at least pull that off, I won't rage.

Also, I recall whathisface (hideo) saying that stealth was still a major part of the game. I certainly hope that hasn't changed and this trailer is just weird.

PS: Revengance? Really. I mean... REALLY now, that's just being dumb.

As someone who's never been interested in the MGS franchise and who has absolutely no clue what just happened in that trailer, who those people are, or why the tagline is so damned silly all I can say is that it looks like someone with a blood and gore fetish mashed Ninja Gaiden, Deus Ex, and Modern Warfare together into an entirely stupid and incoherent mess.

But then I'm not really who this trailer is probably meant to be appealing towards. Could be an amazing game, I don't know, but methinks it's probably not for me.

On the one hand, the trailer looks like a pretty cool way to portray impossibly awesome slash-and-bashing gameplay, which kind of doesn't fit with the original styles of the previous games. Then again, Mario Party kind of did the same thing compared to the original Mario games.

On the other hand, Revengeance? That's not a bloody word! What kind of nut looked at that name concept and thought "Yep! Nothing wrong here! Nothing absolutely ridiculous, even by the standard of tiny cyborgs impossibly blocking a bladed skyscraper with a piece of plastic."

On the one hand, badass cyborgs.

On the other hand... This is still Metal Gear Solid. (Not my thing to begin with, mind.)

On the one hand, um... swords...

On the other hand, this will probably turn into a film- heck, it already looked to be a film with its cutscenes. Can you say 'FMV' boys and girls?

Don't you know that change is bad [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheyChangedItNowItSucks] and that Raiden ruined Metal Gear Solid FOREVER?!?! [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuinedFOREVER]

Honestly, if they make the gameplay actually like what that trailer is showcasing, and don't limit the cool stuff to quick-time events, that looks like it'll be a goddamn fun game. It's supposedly still going to have some stealthing elements, and I will never understand how people think they can judge the entirety of a game based on a leaked promotional trailer that shows something like two minutes of actual gameplay.

EDIT: By the way . . . Kojima has said that it would be a significant departure from the style of the previous MGS games, and if you actually watched the cut-scenes that make up 75% of the games, you'd notice that most of the characters are significantly more deft and competent in fights than the gameplay has allowed.

Extra EDIT: And honestly, if it still took the same gameplay from Metal Gear Solid 4, people would be complaining that it was a shameless cash-in and was making the series stagnant. Just another example of an unpleasable fanbase. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UnpleasableFanbase]

Just we need, more dialog with as little game play as possble..... Some series just need to die, this is one of them. Solid snake should have died in MG3 and that should have been the end of it.

Trailer looks nice though.
Solid snake wasnt in mg3 actually.

Also, this looks nice. I'll buy it, though I am a bit disappointed about how little your sword seems to damage them. Judging from the way he kept flailing at the enemy soldiers.

While I'm not as excited for this as I would be for a "real" Metal Gear game, I'm still getting this. I like DMC / God of War style games a lot, and it looks pretty sweet.

It looks horrendous. Revengeance? Are they taking the piss? Metal Gear has always been ridiculous, but it's a certain flavour of ridiculous. This is... well let's state the obvious it's the guys who made Bayonetta.

Between problems with the timeline, a total disregard for any stealth element whatsoever, and oh... Revengeance... I think I can once again say Rising is not the game for me. Maybe some people will like it's new, totally different approach, but I don't.

I was pretty excited to see this trailer, but now that I've seen it, I'm really not looking forward to it as much anymore. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I felt like I watched a parody trailer more than anything else. It's so...jarring. I'm not sure I like how weirdly exaggerated it is now. I know MGS has always been somewhat over the top and exaggerated, but this seems to kind of take it in a direction that it's even beyond what I expect in a Metal Gear game.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm somewhat flabbergasted by the whole thing.

There is a reason why I like the Metal Gear games. I don't really see a reason why I should play this, since there are other good hack and slay games out there. Of course it's still too early to really judge this but so far, it doesn't seem special.
Seems more like the name is the same just to make the game sell better.

I just need to flip a switch in my mind that this has nothing to do whatsoever with Metal Gear Solid. When I've done that, I think I'll enjoy it.

What... the hell was that I just saw?

The awkward action, the trite metal music, the corny lines, the title. Where has the finesse that formerly made the Metal Gear-series so gripping and brilliant gone? By the account of this trailer, it seems to have had a gun put to its neck and shot.
