OBJECTION!
Also, the boss fights were way different from one another, apart from when they're out of their suits. Octopus utilises Octo-camo, hiding from you at every given oppurtunity, Raven flies around and destroys everything and has her minions helping out, Wolf has an epic sniper/tracking battle across a blizzard in a snowfield while a pack of soldiers also try to murder you horribly, Vamp was a dude you shot until he died, yes, but the dude was fast and soaked up a lot of bullets, so the problem with him (Unless you have the Sun gun, whatever it was called) is staying alive by dodging his attacks, Metal Gear Ray was Metal Gear Ray being fought inside of Metal Gear Rex, Screaming Mantis had a bunch of Telekinesis based attacks as well as ordering Meryl and the Frog Soldiers you may or may not have killed to kill you AND a callback to "The world's greatest mind-reader and psychokinecist." from the word go. Finally we have Liquid, which is as different as it gets to the other bosses. So while a toutine is there for four of the bosses, that in no way means that every single boss is the same thing again and again.
I'm not so sure it's meant to be epic and awesome, but more like something you play through while smiling and nodding, occasionally chuckling as you say "Aw man, I remember that" like when you see the Hind D in the snowfield.
Were you not giving a shit about no kills and stealth and on The Boss Extreme for that playthrough? Only time I've ever been out of ammo is when I'm shoot Scarabs at the end in order to buy myself something nice. I ask the same question about the Suicide Gekko fight because running out of ammo on that fight? So long as you charge your shots, you're fine. If you don't then... well that just baffles me.
Dodging. Dodging is your friend. Dodging, strong punches, dash punches and CQC are your friend.
All right, let the cycle continue!
Calumon: I still have my popcorn.
You never know much about them, yes and admittedly you probably learn stuff after the boss fight which should have been beforehand, but you do always know their motivations for trying to kill Snake. They are mentally scarred, with their pysche resembling a smashed mirror and they have been lead to believe that through Snake's death, through this final endeavour, they would be cured. Yes, this could have been handled better, but it does make it weirdly more horrifying when replaying MGS4 and you can hear Raging Raven being abused and potentially raped as a child in the background. You don't register it at first, it's just noises until Drebin let's you know what you're hearing and then "Oh my God, I'm really uncomfortable right now."Matthew94 said:My gripes?
#1 They had no soul. Every boss in MGS usually had a ton of exposition relating to their character. Not so in MGS4, they all followed the same forumula. You know nothing, you kill them, Drebin explains.
I'd be insane if I didn't say this. I was disappointed by the lack of optional codec convos too, and I agree with you there, though the execution of this would be tricky. When would you hear the conversation about Raven? During the bike chase?Matthew94 said:This ties in with another major pain I have with the game. All the shit that should have been in the (optional) codec is stuck in cutscenes or mandatory codec, not cool.
Story wise Sniper Wolf's second fight was good, but gameplay wise it sucked. It was bigged up as the sniper battle to die for, the best one ever, a legendary one for the ages by Wolf herself. Instead, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, stands behind the rocks at some point and blasts her with the Nikita.Matthew94 said:#2 Sure the emotions were cool but none of them seem that different, you just sort of shot a machine gun at them until they died. You got nothing like Sniper Wolf, The End or even The Pain. Sure, some of them had similar setups but there was no fear or tension. Sniper Wolf fight #2 has her taunting you over codec before the fight and has a hell of an ending. No, the B&B are all the same, just robots with hot babes underneath for me to photo after I tranq them.

1 had a car chase. You were on a car. A big bloody jeep. 3 did have a bike chase, and there's a reason 4 did too! Look who you're with! LOOK AT HER! Do you see why meeting this person might make Kojima think "Hey in this conclusion of Solid Snake's story, why don't I put a bike chase in when Snake meets this character?" You know, maybe it's meant to be a nod to a previous game in the series or something like that.Matthew94 said:The bike chase wasn't that interesting to me. Sure it was cool but it wasn't a big enough payoff for such a boring chapter. Besides, we've had a bike chase in 1 and 3 already, it wasn't new. Actually, we already had a chase in chapter 2!
Yeah, it was more linear than the other chapters but it was certainly not as linear as you can get (My introduce you to Final Fantasy XIII, or as her friends call her, "Hallway".) especially since there are wide amount of ways you can go about your business, like the number of ways into the Tank Hangar, the Blast Furnace (Which has got a lot of ways to go now you hang and drop and do whatever you want without turning into grilled snake from the molten iron everywhere.)Matthew94 said:I didn't find them scary but my gripe was that returning to Shadow Moses was meant to be "epic" and "awesome" but it was just a trudge through a few buildings with some robots to kill. Sure the robots were new but they were hardly fun to fight, they were just cannon fodder.
It was as linear as you could get, there was nothing interesting to do. I did like the new area they added to Shadow Moses though despite it being about 50 metres in length.

Eh, Kojima wanted to show off the customisation for the guns to the player early, so I can see why he'd show off the gun that is super customisable first. Wouldn't fault your opinion though. Except the "Plenty of ammo" part. All the guns have a similar cap for their ammo. 893 (As in Drebin 893). I think the grenades and heavier weapons may have a lower one, but for most guns, 893 is the magic number.Matthew94 said:I ran out of M4 ammo in no time in my "No Drebin" run and had to resort to militia weapons. It makes the game into a true MGS game as you cannot buy your way out of a fight.
I mean, it makes no sense and takes away all tension. The SM Gekko fight? Just spam the Rail Gun and keep buying ammo.
This ties into another glaring issue I have with the game, the M4. It's the best machine gun in the game and they give it to you for free. The thing gets the best sights, a grenade launcher, plenty of ammo, a suppressor. It should have been a hidden gun or something, it's far too good.

Did you do the fight on the hardest mode? Liquid does INSANE damage to you, it's not even funny.[/quote]Matthew94 said:(I also don't think the last bit was that hard, but that might the due to the relative skill of the individual in fighting/melee combat based games, so no faults there)
Dodging. Dodging is your friend. Dodging, strong punches, dash punches and CQC are your friend.
...I think we can safely assume it was caused by an entire super goliath tanker/submarine/Arsenal Gear crushing him. I'd be suspicious if he didn't have anything wrong with him or missing. I was raising an eyebrow he could even make it out of that one alive.Matthew94 said:Also, where the hell did Raiden's second arm go? It disappeared and OH did NOT take it off, it just disappeared and was never explained.
