I don't get it.

It's a dark comic that is trying to be funny, but isn't.

It's a cheap attempt at dark humor (i.e. "Killing babies, hurr hurr!") that fails the humor test. Dark humor is fine, but this one just wasn't funny. Not sure if he was trying to make a point, but it certainly didn't.

Pretty much the only thing it did was make his readers wish he'd go back to Stout.

I don't think anyone's getting upset about it. We're just pointing out that it was a very poor attempt at dark humor that just fell on it's face.

I, um, yea I held on to this comic for a while but I think I'm out. I mean, don't get me wrong, not offended by the joke even though I ought to be, it's just a dead baby joke is the one you do when you have nothing else, and to then screw it up? Meh. There are other web-comics.

Also, aware, he doesn't care that I'm done, and aware he probably won't read this, was just stating an opinion.

Eh. I found the items joke amusing. I also find "screaming child" or "crying baby" to be the top of my list of things that make me want to destroy something wonderful every time I hear it. Reason N why I will never have children.

So many people missed the joke. Have they even played a metal gear game? At worst it's a shaken baby joke...You shake the enemies on Metal Gear to get their items. You don't kill them, you knock them out. Calm down folks

The joke is that the baby's not actually dead, just knocked out and that only people who really play Metal Gear Solid will get that. Only enemies who are knocked out drop supplies, so it's a subversion of what people who don't play Metal Gear Solid will think of this.

That said, I'm not quite in on this joke, and not for the reasons you think. This is a much more exclusionary joke, and it seems that the creators intentionally made a very niche joke that only a few number of people would get at the expense of most everyone else, especially when they know this kind of joke could blow up (potentially giving them traffic). I believe that one of the main no-nos of webcomics is making is that it's not good to tell inside-jokes that only a few people will get, which this essentially is.

I'm not saying I agree with either of you here but saying that if you replace the main character, the victim and the punchline of a joke, you end up with something not very funny is a tad ridiculous.

If you didn't find it funny fine but at the same time no one else should have to justify why they found it funny to you.

I hope you see my point. I didn't get it and clearly most other people didn't get it. Also people will fine this offensive whether you killed a baby or merely "incapacitated it". If your goal was to offend people and thus get exposure then good job, you succeeded.

Personally, I don't find this that funny now that I've got the joke. Am I offended? Not really.

@Jumplion: Judging from the description at the bottom, I'm guessing half of the joke is supposed to be the people that don't get it, meaning they made it so incredibly esoteric purposefully. Pretty underhanded, but hell, I'm laughing so... mission accomplished.
