Fucktard.

OT: I just wish I had some money to get new albums. I haven't updated my library since I had a crisis of conscience and stopped pirating... which was months ago. And this was right after my hard drive got wiped, so I've got all of like 700 songs. That sounds like a lot, doesn't it?

...well, it's not.
Spotify is for you, my friend.

£5 a month and unlimited listening? Yesh please.

Or you can have 20hrs a month w/ ads for no charge.

Got the new Disturbed album last week and I was disappointed with it. It wasn't heavy at all and I really expected it to be more like Indestructible. This seems to be happening more and more today; metal bands are going softer. And I find that extremely disappointing because I love thrash metal. Is it too much to ask that my Metal is fucking metal? Discuss, disagree, recommend some heavy metal, call me a fucktard, whatever.
Can I just say that METAL as being METAL originally was what we call Hard rock In modern days

People like you piss me off

Metal is something totally different from the screamy gorey belching we see nowadays
And I agree. Like I said earlier, I really don't like Slipknot or Korn. I actually like HEAVY metal. I'm just saying that I'm tired of bands going softer. Though I know Disturbed were never especially heavy, it's still disappointing to have then lose what heaviness they did have. But metal is like a drug to me, I constantly need heavier stuff. Now that you know my position, please tell me exactly why I piss you off.

With that said, I listen to music because it's good - it doesn't matter how "Metal" something is or whether people perceive a band to be "Metal", I listen to things because I like them.
Smartest thing in this entire thread.

OT: As for my own metal tastes, as I get older I'm more into the blackened post rock sorta stuff.

In fact, Alcest is probably my favorite band (one guy) ever. Neige for life.

Been getting into this band lately.

For me metal has never been about being badass, or hardcore like it is with so many people. Metal for me is about raw emotion. Take this for instance...

This is an ugly song, but it's also beautiful. It's course, grating and vocally terrible by traditional sense but the raw emotion this song exhumes...it's hard to put it to words but it nearly moves me to years and I'm far from a sad guy. My life kicks ass. This song though ... stunning.
Coincidentally enough I've had that Alcest album on my "Big list o' things to buy" for a while now, so it's great that you quoted me, because I'd almost forgotten I was supposed to go acquire it. Thanks for the unintentional reminder!

I don't think disturbed could really have been qualified as metal.
I always thought they had more of a Hard rock vibe going on.
One of my favorite Metal bands though, is Silent Civilian.
If you haven't checked them out, you should go do it now.
Thats the only suggestion I can think of at the moment, every other band I've thought up is pretty popular, so you most likely know them already. (i.e Lamb of god.)

Disturbed is not metal, in fact it's insulting to metal. Neither are Breaking Benjamin, 3 Days Grace, or any of those god-awful butt-rock bands.

If you want metal listen to anything Metallica pre-black album, or get some Megadeth. Slayer rocks as does Motorhead.

Personally, good metal is far and few between. Screaming and repetitive riffs do not a metal band make. Prog-rock is where it's at anyways, Rush 4 Life!

Edit: Speaking of Metal that isn't Metal...

Now, I'm concerned, mostly because I kinda like it.

I'm not sure if you mean albums or bands

if you mean albums: Iron Fist, Bomber, Overkill, Motörhead
if you mean bands: I don't know, there are shit tons of good bands all over the globe

Besides, if you think metal bands have a problem with this kinda thing, pity third wave sak fans; countless bands have turned into generic pop-punk acts and lost the horn sections.
Third wave ska fans completely deserve it, third wave ska itself being an utter bastardization of ska made by white kids in the american suburbs.

Deep Purple and Blue Oyster Cult. Two of the best "pre-metal" metal bands. May I suggest Speed King and Transmaniacon MC for your listening pleasures?

EDIT: And The Sword's "Gods of the Earth"

I think that metal is the best genre of music there is but bands who are classed as metal sometimes want to changethey dont want to sound the same and somethimes make a softer songs I beleive that if this song at least has a meaning and in my opinion still good but not totally diffrent then why stop it metal is a good genre but sometimes we need to mix it up a little do something thats never been done before which is what bands like black sabbath were trying to do when they started the genre

You can't scream into a mike for decades at a time. Metal bands are going soft because their throats are wrecked and their all half deaf.

That, and the whole 'I'm getting older, I probably should prove to these fools that I actually know how to sing' thing.
Pretty much sums it up.

Add in David Draiman's interesting gutteral noises that he's always to quick to show off and he's getting pretty fucked up. Metallica was a forerunner in thrash metal. Now listen to all their soft songs and you wonder "What happened?" They played a few to many screamers
