Oh you said best? My bad..

Well i don't really know about the best album but my personal favourites were:

All Hope Is Gone-Slipknot
Shogun-Trivium (before you think to chase me with rakes and lit torches, know that this is actually an improvement from The Crusade)
The Formation Of Damnation-Testament

on another note,What do you guys think the best album of 09 be?

Hard to say really. I'm having high hopes for the new Slayer album due this summer. Megadeth's releasing a new one as well, but I'm rather sceptical about that one.

I'd say the best album of 2008 was Riders of The Plague by The Absence. Who cares if it was released in 2007, it beats anything from last year.

I really like Cynic's Traced in Air.

http://www.myspace.com/cyniconline
A great pick. Here are some of my contenders:

Protest the Hero - Fortress
Gojira - The Way of All Flesh
Torche - Meanderthal

I'm sure I could think up some more if I could look at my library.
God I adore Gojira. For me probably:
Origin - Antithesis
Krisiun - Southern Storm
Gojira- The Way of All Flesh

Skinless and Necrophagist are releasing new stuff this year, should be awesome.
New Necrophagist album? Awesome. Here's hoping he changed his growls a bit.
Hes adding high vocals I hear. This makes me sad somewhat.

And yes, that was the best album in the last 10 years, now that Here In After is more than 10 years away.

Well, the monotonous growls he used on the last 2 albums got boring quick.

Name ONE metal band you don't think anyone has heard of, and I have probably heard of them in some way, shape, or form.
I've got some for you. Dark Age, Brocas Helm, Traitors Gate, Juggernaut, Holocaust, Headstone, Gotham City, Silver Mountain, Sound Barrier, Sortilege, Witchfynde, Darkness, Chateaux, August. Those are just a few to start, I've got plenty more.

Metal? me loves it!

my favorite bands include, but are not limited to:

Burzum
Immortal (the kings)
Dimmu Borgir
Finntroll (finnish polka/folk/black metal)
Windir (Valfar, I will see you in Valhalla! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz-UA6rjQ8Q&feature=related )
Metallica (only US band on the list:p)
Darkthrone
Nightwish (a little opera metal never hurt anyone)
Children of Bodom
Graveworm
Satyricon
Iron Maiden
Enslaved (Blodhemn eg svergar!)
Emperor
Taake

I'll stop now, before I get too lost in obscurity.
I guess you really are Norwegian. I agree that Immortal were probably the best to come out of the 2nd wave of black metal. I saw them in NYC when they played their reunion tour. I paid out the ass ($100+) so I could meet them backstage but all the fanboys in front of me brought just about every album to get signed, so by the time I got up there all I could get signed was the poster. But I did get to light Demonaz's joint! Either that or it was a hand rolled cigarette.

awesome:) I agree, they are the best.
Hand rolled cigarettes are quite common in Norway by the way, so it's not that unlikely:)
although i prefer to think it was a joint:p

I used to have an illuminated soloist preferenced time, and that's when I listened to stuff like Dream Theater (I swear, Constant Motion simply can't be processed by human brains). But then I realized I prefer good lyrics and melodies. My favourite bands right now are Metallica and Disturbed. I particularly enjoyed the new album by Disturbed, Indestructible. I spent listening to nothing else for weeks, and I think it's got much deeper thoughts than many metal bands nowadays, maybe because of the purpose behind the lyrics, which are of course very sad. Simply watch Inside the Fire video. And since I found out the other day that Metallica had a performance with the San Francisco orchestra, I have more Metallica stuff to listen to.

Anyone like The Faceless?

I've only just started giving them a good listen and I can say that they are pretty good. Their older album is much better than their new one, which just feels empty.

Good guitar, good vocals and some catchy riffs.

See, I like the new one better. Probably the techiest tech death there is.

I'm not really a fan of tech death. It always seems like they sacrifice the song for the sake of technicality. Instead of coming up with decent melodies, riffs and lyrics, they just play quickly.

The first Faceless album is much more melodic IMO, I agree with Bucket with the genre itself though.
