I played metro 2033 on a whim. the game was awesome, with some issues in presentation (budgeting in other words). anyway i finished it and looked it up on Wikipedia and found out it was based on a book, and i was wondering which ending was the one that happened in the book, i plan on picking up the English translation (the book was written in Russian)but can someone tell me which ending is the one from the book.

Better to just read the book, it is much better than the game.
I thought the game was really good, did you read the original Russian or English translation?

I could tell you, but why would I? Just read the book. You'll appreciate dear Artyom even more after that.

It's a book.

Of course he speaks :D

Just as with the game, the whole story follows him on his path through the Metro---and trust me, while the game is incredible (I love it to bits), the book is even more so. Though that is a rule hardly ever proven wrong: Books will beat the visual media that are born from them.

The only downside is the somewhat shaky English translation, which made me wish I had finished studying my Swedish and found the time to study Russian as I had been planning for so long.

Aside from that it's an excellent read that will give you a much clearer insight on the Metro and how dreary life is for the survivors there.

I think it's out of print. You're probably going to have to get it online. Or get lucky at a used book-store. I've had no luck at any major book store. Also found this which I find amusing

Not the review it-self but rather that it was in the second spot in google for "is metro 2033 out of print"
Edit: scroll down slow to avoid spoilers. I did.

A Clockwork Orange is actually just as good as the book.

Why I said "hardly ever". There are some books out there that benefit from the media that follows in their footsteps. But these are rare occasions at best. However, I never read the Godfather books, so I can't judge here.

I could go as far as to say that Metro the book vs Metro the game, is not actually a very fair comparison. The game's version of the story was tailored to fit the media and is just different enough to stand on its own two feet, while still staying true to the gritty flair of the book.

Eh.

/ramble.

Just read the thing!

I plan on trying to hunt it down again tomorrow. Maybe the bookstores near me just suck?

I loved the game and the book but I prefer the book it's brilliant I would recommend it and I don't want to ruin the ending for you, so just read it and you'll understand why I didn't want to tell you.

That's not the problem. The problem is that it's not your usual mainstream book. It's being shouldered off the shelves by the flood of native English titles in the Western market. You'd have more luck finding the German translation in the Germans shelves.

I'd recommend online stores here. Was gonna link you the Amazon.com one but it sold out there (Temporarily. The same happened on amazon.co.uk, but they restocked since then... which led me to believe it is not out of print) :p

Did you ask the stores if you could order from them?

Yes I had actually. This was a part of why I thought it was out of print. I wonder If I could find the Russian version. I'd been looking for an excuse to learn a new language. Actually I'm going to go the used way first. I know a place that has a good variety. Although if all else fails I will go the "Amazon route".
Edit: that and people asking unreasonable amounts for it used.

I got both Metro 2033 and Metro 2034 (again I wish I had learned Russian by now, instead I had to read it in German) from Amazon.de.

Hrmph. I'm willing to back down on my statement that the book is not out of print. But it just seems so unlikely since it still gets restocked in online stores.... that, and the popularity it received after the game was released, which caused it to be out of stock to begin with.
