I'm having fun with it but the FoV is a valid complaint. It feels like Artyom (sp?) has no peripheral vision for a supposed elite post-apocalyptic survivor-soldier. Semi-auto shotgun with choke is also just silly damage, even at mid-range.
I like to think the tunnel vision would add to the scare factor

Yeeeaaaah, no. Interesting point, but it does fall apart at the joints a fair bit.

Can't quite recall dipping into strange dream landscapes in my own head or fleeing from strange psi anomalies in Call of Duty, but what do I know?

So I must confess, I have not played the previous Metro games (and there are how many now?), so what did I miss? Anything that really stands out to separate from the herd?

Hahaha great commentary on Nintendo in contrast to Modern Military shooter games.

There's no FOV slider in Last Light.

Which, by the way, I think it's a completely ridiculous thing to get all pissy about. Like multiplayer, it really doesn't need to be in every shooter ever made.
No it's really not. There's a difference between options which may be necessary for intuitive controls (like key-rebinding)or to prevent nausea (tight FOV) and adding a game mode which will take a lot more work. Some things just need to be standards.

As Modern Warfare 2 reaches it's climax you as Roach storm Makarovs safe house with Ghost and a few other NPC's, you capture the data you need and go to evac but are betrayed and killed by Shepard. Shepard tries to destroy Task Force 141 , including Price and Soap, after this you play a mission escaping from Shepards elite soldiers (US spec ops) and incoming Russian forces, you can do this without killing if you're skilled. The next mission involves infiltrating their base to kill Shepard and you murderalise a fair few Americans in the process.

The Modern Warfare games are seriously fucking crazy and across the 3 games actually offer a fairly good story with a few good twists and turns

Sorry goofed my spoiler tag people, fixed now.

There's two Metro games; Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. The book that the game is based on is also called Metro 2033, well worth a read.

The thing that stands out with the Metro series is the atmosphere and the survival elements. While there is plenty of shooting the dear old Russians, there's also a lot of shooting mutants and paranormal phenomenoms straight out of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., with ghosts and sequences taking place inside your own head. You spend most of your time on your own, as well, and are encouraged to use stealth, by blowing out candles, deactivating generators and avoiding empty tin cans and bits of glass that alerts nearby enemies if you step on them.

If that's your cup of tea, I do recommend checking it out. While it looks bog-standard when you boil it down to mechanics, it do have quite a few new tricks to offer.

A lot of people get motion sickness or feel nauseous when playing on a low FoV. Myself included. Once I bought Metro Last Light and found out it didn't have a FoV, I immediately tried to get a refund. I literally can't play it for more than 30 minutes without getting a massive headache.
Of course, the game itself sucks all over the place anyway, so that could be why too.

So the New game is like the old game then huh. By that I mean horror/monster fighting segments bookended by call of duty 2155 AD.

Funny comic as usual Grey and an adorable Link Cory.

I like COD... it's decent fun, nothing special...
And zombies!

...Though you probably can't actually kill something that's already dead.

The fact is, problems arising from games having low FOV are fairly common amongst gamers. This includes the previously mentioned motion sickness. While they're not the majority, there's a good chunk of gamers who actually get sick from a game with a narrow FOV. Honestly, if a game's making you sick, I think that is worth getting "all pissy about."

It's worth noting that it's also fairly common for it to be exacerbated by other game mechanics. The one that comes to mind is "gun sway."

It does but it adds it in a way that feels unrealistic and you KNOW it's a gameplay mechanic that's causing the issue.

A person's vision is really easy to adjust in real life. Some people shouldn't get motion sickness from turning their head.

It's a fear factor but the game is already capable of providing that tension in other means - shrubbery concealing the movement of mutant beasts, enemies leaping from wall to wall in sporadic patterns, giant shrimp monsters suddenly leaping out of murky water at you, monsters howling from a variety of directions but not actually attacking you or being visible. Limited FoV is just a "cheap" way of scaring the player.

And Nazis. The game also has you shooting Nazis.

but its Nazi Russians.

unless they just decided "eh, screw it, more 'FOR ZE FUHRER!' Mooks".

Metro 2033 was pretty fun, the whole 'holy shit, a tank on subway rails is chasing us' was a bit surreal, but overall the game was fun in the sense of humanity is only surviving because the Russian Metro System doubles as a Nuclear Shelter.

Yes, all of humanity, since it's never claimed any other country survived the Apocalypse of the Week Metro had.

or, if it did, I never saw/heard/read it, and apologize before hand.

I'll even lower my flame shield.
Some other city metros survived in the books 2033 was based on. Don't know whether the game universe still follow the books although.
