Er... isn't it the last MGS, then? Don't we just go back to Metal Gear, because, y'know, Solid is lacking?

Unless the entire story for the fourth one is spoiled right now, then we just don't have enough info. to confirm that.

It's been pretty openly stated that MGS4 is Solid Snake's last stand - we're still speculating on whether he'll disappear, retire or die (though we have been seeing that video clip of him putting a gun in his mouth for like two years now).
It's actually moments like that that make me wish I was an MGS fan, because some of the cinematics seem flat out epic. Just like how I wish I was into Shenmue, even though I spent a fucking week playing that game until I got tired of moving tall piles of books for no discernible reason.

I thought that MGS4 would be the last one that Kojima would be involved in.
That's what I thought. I really hope Konami doesn't just constantly plug games that aren't really good. There's a good reason why it has taken Kojima 4 years to make MGS4. Still, best game in the series is MG2: Solid Snake.

Ah Shenmue, what a classic, especially number 2s 1 hour of store, 3 hours of earning money by doing boring jobs to carry on with story, cycle!

And isnt it obvious that MSG4 isnt the last MSG because MSG:Online is coming out a few months later?

MGS 1: Snake was charming, the supporting cast was very interesting and fun to talk to (especially Mei Ling and Nastasha), and the death of some bosses made me tear up (sniper wolf).

MGS 2: I HATE ROSE!! you'd think a guy in the middle of a life or death situation would need all the support he can get, but all she does is whine and annoy the crap out of me, all damn game.
The villains turned from "slightly exaggerated powers" to "wtf H4x that guy survived 2 headshots". How the hell anyone thought that Fatman or fortune or that other vampire weirdo would make decent villains is beyond me. Raiden is not as good as snake but he's not all that horrible.

MGS 3: Naked Snake may look like the guy from the 1st game, but the producers wanted to add the "this is you" factor to him, transforming him into Idiot Snake, i couldn't take him seriously at all, just watch any codec sequence with that equally idiotic token black guy engineer and you'll understand what i mean. I know they tried to lighten the mood but they overdid it. Also the way that slut Eva was throwing herself at me all game further emphasized the "this is you" factor and made me feel like i'm playing a tomb raider game.

Eva was trying to get in your pants the whole game though...so she could...erm...steal the...a **** it...so she could steal that file about the patriots

Heh heh. Anyway, yeah, I'll also come out of the closet and stick up for Raiden. I liked the guys character, his hair was rubbish, but he was something really original and outlandish. People who play MGS only for the guns, action and guard fun won't get him, naturally. Nor will guys who need to stick with the mob consensus, which is most low self-esteem gamers.

Raiden's whole battle with Solidus and his history revealed via the Codec in that iconic battle, made more sense. If you also played MGS Portable Ops and meet a certain Null, that fills in some gaps.

One thing I know is that I will always have the deepest respect for Kojima, he's undoubtedly moved the humble gaming industry in new directions with his innovations in story telling, game mechanics and characterisation and though, while brutally honest, MGS2 was really quite flawed in most of those areas, you still have to commend him for taking a chance and doing things that threw a gamer for six.

Also, Raiden should've been a Girl, it would've been infinitely better! Metal Gear: Acid has taught us that much. =]

Isn't MG:O coming with the game? I'm pretty sure it comes with the starter pack for the online game.

Well, Kojima only ever said that HE wanted to move away from MGS; never talked about Konami or his staff :)

I think the main complaint with Raiden was that "he was a long haired pansy boy" - I didn't really see it, he just looked (and acted) like a "foxhound rookie" and I liked Raiden because of it, and I was surprised to find that pretty much everyone hated him because he wasn't "grizzled war-torn manly man with facial hair" snake.
I liked Raiden for that reason too. He's completely lost and needs someone to kindly explain him the situation; his character is so far off the know-it-all type you usually encounter in videogames he came out as refreshing for me.
About Rose, I never liked her as a character but I loved the interaction between her and Jackie-boy. Frankly, their completely off-topic romantic conversations always managed to crack me up. Oh God, do I love MGS's codec chats and the WTF moments they provide ^^
