Michael Bay Apologizes For Armageddon

Like pretty much everyone else here I LIKED Armageddon. It came out when people were nervous about the earth being hit by planet killing asteroids (Shoemaker-Levy 9, anyone?) and it totally kicked Deep Impact's ass.

To his credit, he sort of apologized for Transformer's 2.
He said something roughly to the effect of:
(Paraphrased) "Transformers 2 was bad because of the writer's strike. I didn't want to stop production during the strike though, as a lot of people's jobs were depending on it."

Really, apologizing for his other good movie? Such a long list, with only two decent entries, and he picks one of those two to apologize for? What's next, a director's remake of The Rock?

Seriously (not that I wasn't serious before), his reasons were sound and the back act of Armaggedon was the weakest part of the movie. It's just that this is coming from Michael Bay. If it were Peter Jackson we would give them the benefit of the doubt. Or if it were a mid-level director we'd call them a whiner. But because it's Bay, we hate.

I liked Armageddon, I always put that next to Independence Day when it comes to fun popcorn action movies that I never get tired of watching.

There's not that many Michael Bay movies that I hate that much when I think about it.

The Rock and Bad Boys 2 are fucking awesome.

I liked the Island.

I even liked the second half of Pearl Harbor, the part without the George Lucas dialogue and the awkward chemistry between Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale.

I never understood why people give him so much shit.

So... since when is saying "I was making this excellent movie and then the studio took it away from me and fucked it all up. If it had been left entirely in my hands it would have been great." considered an apology? Narcissistic jackhole.

While I have to admit the man makes movies that leave an astonishing amount of theater seats soaked by the copious nerdgasms of big bang special effects aficionados, like another poster here, I've never watched any of hims films more than once, if that many times, except for The Rock. To me the man's film career has been a complete waste of time.

I liked that movie, and aside from some historical inaccuracies, the film did a decent job of portraying what the attack was like, at least from what I was told by my grandfather who was a Pilot stationed there during the attack, being injured with 2nd degree burns on his leg requiring skin-grafts (and later flew Hellcats off the USS Bon Homme Richard).

Armageddon was fine, so was Transformers 1.(To those that say it wasn't, go back and look what the most recent Transformers stuff we got before that...Pokeformers?)
However, Bay should grovel for Revenge of the Fallen.

Well I think it could be because he took an event that devastated the lives of many people, and shook a country to its core, and turned it into explosion porn. And then to add insult to injury he just used this tragic event as a back drop for a rather shitty love story. You of all people should understand why an event that is such a painful and meaningful memory to many people should not be trivialized to feed some artist's (and I use that term in the loosest way possible) ego. Also, even overlooking the self serving exploitation and horrendous liberties taken with historical facts, many found the script and the acting to be atrocious.

Because it wasn't really an apology. It was a backhand swipe at the film studio for taking away his toy and making him cry.

I personally like the movie until the 3rd act. Otherwise it sucks. Also Michael Bay isn't bad at making movies, he is just misguided and if there indeed is studio and producer influence causing problems then who knows, he might have made better movies.
But I do not assume rage stand when ever I hear hes name, I grew up with watching Armageddon, it was something me and my mom did a lot together, we sat down on the sofa during a Sunday afternoon and watched the movie together. I dunno if that automatically makes me biased, but I still like the movie.

Tho even I as a kid had to agree on "Physics don't work like that".

I liked Armageddon. It had some really memorable moments. Nucky Tompson going insane with a zero-atmosphere gatling gun? What's not to love?

When are we going to hear or read of Michael apology for Transformers 2 and 3? No I have no problems with the overall Autobot/ Decepticon apperance and Megan leaving, I had problems with everything else that made those two films bad!

I think the more money Bay is given, the more stupid he gets.

I enjoyed the Rock, the first Bad Boys and to an extent the first Transformers. I'm excited for Pain & Gain but that's only because I wanna see the chemistry between Marky Mark and Dwayne.

Was Steven Speilberg involved with Transformers 1? I think he kept Bay in check. Then when it was super crazy successful Bay lost the plot and made absolute nonsense for the sequels.
