Here's the thing: As bad as the DRM/Cloud bullshit was, Microsoft have now shown themselves to be a pack of barefaced liars.

Up until earlier today, they were telling us that 'the Cloud' was a necessary part of the system design, that the Xbone had to connect to the internet to allow for their planned functionality, that they had designed the system solely around being connected... sure, we all knew it was bullshit, but at least Microsoft was consistent in trying to peddle their bullshit.

Now though, they've straight up admitted that they lied about pretty much everything regarding the new console. Everything they sold us was a lie, and never had to be that way in the first place. If they were willing to lie about that, and to then reveal themselves to be such barefaced liars, then what else could they lie to us about? Where does it stop? If everything they told us was mandatory about the system has now been proven not to be the case, then what exactly can we judge the console on? Not E3, given they lied about that as well by using PCs to demo games on.

What's to stop them lying in the future? If they switched so quickly now, what's to stop them switching back as soon as everyone buys a console? We've already seen that Microsoft has no problem with pushing horrible OS and menu updates to 360 owners. What if they do that with the Xbone?

And most importantly: they're still shipping this thing with a mandatory Kinect which has to be plugged in at all times. There are still a hundred and one other things wrong with this console, even with all the changes they've made. No backwards compatibility, Xbox Live Gold, those horrible partnerships with Mountain Dew and Doritos...

I just don't trust Microsoft at this point. They're a pack of liars who out-and-out insulted their consumerbase. At this point, the Xbone is dead to me. I own and still love my OG Xbox, but the Xbox brand has been trodden in the dirt for me.
Did you read it all? They're pulling some functionality to make way for these changes. You now need the disc in the drive to play, and digital sharing has gone entirely. Sadly, those were my reasons for wanting one, so ...
On top of that, "The Cloud" comes down to individual games. As you could already play offline, it was clear cloud was never a system requirement, but an optional extra. A way for some games to improve themselves by using distributed computing where possible, but still be available otherwise. This hasnt changed.

Well I guess now we just pray that they take the StalkerCam off the console. The kinect is probably the main deciding factor now.
it can be switched off.
thats what i read on the escapist anyway.

a little late but a good move by microsoft, not sure why it was ever even considerd a good idea in the first place :/
My main problem with it is that I have to buy the thing even though it won't even work in the space I have between my chair and TV. So basically I'll never use it but still have to pay money for it.
Yeah I have to admit, I'm trying to picture myself on a Friday evening after a week of work, jumping around and stuff and it's just uhh no thanks :/
I think I'll sit down with a beer.
This of course leaves it as nothing more than a fancy tv remote.

Yeah, it reminded me of this

Anyway, I'm surprised. Erm, duh. But yeah, surprised. And a little bit worried - I wander how much the Xbox One would suffer for the late change at this point. Apparently, it's less than it would suffer without the change, though. Hmm, the backlash against Microsoft must be bigger than I imagined initially.
