Microsoft Files Antitrust Complaint Against Google

I'm actually taking an Anti-Trust and Regulation class in college right now and Microsoft may have a valid claim. They were accused of "tying" their IE and Windows together and saying that they were in fact one product when really they were preventing Netscape (yeah I know netscape >_>) from getting a foothold. Obviously this isn't true anymore but it was back in the day and Microsoft has been paying out the nose in Europe for it.
Here, Microsoft has a couple of arguments but one of them is essentially that Google's Product search is illegally "tying" their google marketplace service with Google and that it gives them an unfair advantage. That might be true but it depends on how the courts interpret Google as a product. Youtube is also a "product" of google now I suppose you could say... they may have an argument under the Trinko rule that says that any business can choose whom to deal with, however since Youtube has huge marketshare... I suppose Microsoft could argue that them refusing to deal with them is hurting the consumer.
It also depends on how the courts feel about internet businesses since they are rather untested in anti-trust cases, being so recent. They may be treated differently since they have equal footing on the internet... or they may be treated as normal.
I do think that Microsoft is chasing Google because they feel threatened by them. Remember when Bing was actively stealing code from Google?

[/footnote]OT (=ostrich texture): I'm opposed to all monopolizing, especially when it ends up not allowing better products to be made, but rather than going on a trademark/patent/registration/exclusivity -rant, I'll just say that Microsoft is really in no position to attack Google.
And I say this because Google just bought my country. please. help.
That's because bing is the default search engine on the default internet browser for the OS that is most popular. MS got slammed in the UK for anti-competitory practices for making IE the default browser, so they should probably just shut the fuck up unless they're willing to give all releases of Windows 7 (not just the UK) the choice of browser from the first install.

The spirit of antitrust law runs pretty damn contrary to nearly all of modern business. If you want to go down that road, it's going to take us a very, very long way from here.Nohra said:

Seriously, practice the same competition you're saying Google is stifling by making a search engine that doesn't suck, so it can compete.
So they are complaining because they want to be more greedy. I hope this is a joke. I mean Microsoft as far as I remember were basically told to stop buying up companies themselves years ago as they were creating a Monopoly.

Explain to me how Google is going to block Bing from accessing anything on the internet. Google searches are not the same as Bing searches, and if you are advertising through Google, you buy the right for your search parameters to show up closer to the top.
Also, the reason why YouTube on Android phones is fun and easy to access is not because they got permission where Windows 7 Mobile could not, it's because Google and Android are partners. I'm sure it didn't occur overnight for the iPhone.
I think the worst part is that this will actually get consideration by computer illiterate and economically illiterate folks in Washington DC. Let the games begin.
