According to U.S. law, a corporation holds all legal rights of a human being. A human being can hold pretty much any elected position in the U.S. so long as they are over 35, were born in America and have never been convicted of a felony.

Out of insomnia driven boredom I thought you, The Escapist could discuss the idea of a corporation attempting to hold public office. Would it be allowed? Could they win? How does Souplex achieve those magnificent levels of awesomeness? All of these questions and more are up for discussion.

That said, gimme' your two cents!

Microsoft for president?
And here I was thinking they had already taken over the world...
How long before The Escapist can go for president?

I think Microsoft would have to sack all of their members with a criminal record to become President.
It would be allowed, but they'd fail because they'd only be doing it for money.
They could win an election if they had enough fanboys voting for them.

What's Souplex?

And here they are:

That's true, but we'd probably just descend into a giant fanboy war if Microsoft entered politics.

I was not referring to microsoft specifically, they are just a big recognizable company. This is about the idea of companies holding public office in general.

Zing!

I'd vote for them, at least you'd know where they were in terms of stance:

True, true. But do they want more power? Of course they do...

The real question is do we have much left to give them?

How did Arnie get elected as governor then? Is there some loophole?

I'd maybe vote for them. I mean, do they have any real political knowledge to make them win? Or they could just buy the US.
