I highly doubt that anything could possibly replace a controller. Just think, in games like fps's how would you walk? Most families only have a few feet of free space, which is not enough to allow flailing arms and legs. Natal at most should be marketed as a pheriphal for games.
If I were them, I would implement it with a tiny little joystick thing like the joystick of the wii nunchuck that could be strapped onto your thumb and used only with your thumb for walking.
Damn, I don't like that idea because it could work really well!

As i read, i get the distinct impression that people believe NATAL is code for HAL.

So what happens if you walk past the TV? or you have the lights down and the screen flashes brightly during a film? isn't there a risk that: A, walking past it will do a variety of different button combinations. B, it will automatically mess itself up while watching a film.

lol. So the not that amazing Imma ripoff of another program and we have no ideas of our own might become big. I don't care about natal at all. I don't like how the Wii came out with a gimmick that worked in their favor and now sony and 360 have to rip them off.
Well...Sony are not actually ripping off any gimmics.
the made I-pet and thats nothing like the WII-mote or Natal, and don't forget sony had I-toy play while nintendo where still sucking on there gaycube.

2 things. I liked Gaycube lol. And 2 I know they had Eye Toy thats why i'm calling Natal just an updated "Program" or device. Wii Motion Controller is a Fun Gimmick but isn't the selling point. 360 and Sony just know that the Wii has sold more units and they want to catch up so by using old technology and updating it they hope to Become equal to the number of Wiis sold. To bad most people i know and talk to think Natal and Sony's thing are a waste of time.
Well in reply to the "Gaycube" don't fret I loved it too, last best thing to come out of nintendo's ass...anal.

I really don't think sony are trying to update old technology, its just I-pet, no gimmics as such, where as nintendo use there gimmic controler in every frecking game, and Microsoft want to use there gimmic to control your TV, Curtains, Dishwasher, you sexlife ect.

The number of people in the room at one time is an input
Am I the only person who noticed that oh so important line. It seems Microsoft may finally have found the way to charge a per person usage fee.

Honestly, I have a habit of fidgeting a lot when I watch TV or movies. This would be a complete pain in the ass if the channel gets changed every time I feel like shifting my body weight of the possibility of me going to get a drink, snack or use the bathroom.

I think that Microsoft and Nintendo are only getting motion controls half right and that Sony's solution is the way to go. Using a camera to track position paired with a motion remote seems like the best idea. I honestly don't see how Natal will work outside of shallow little tech demo minigames without completely reinventing games and how they're played.

Good thing I don't work for Microsoft, isn't it? :p
Definitely, because now my affiliates at Sony have it!

They will never replace a remote, or a keyboard and mouse. I'd love to see someone play a fast-paced game like Quake using Natal. It might be good for social gaming, but for hardcore games? No way.

Nononono, I love controllers.

That is just beautiful is it not? I would like to see us stick with controllers just for a little bit longer...I love the feeling of having something in your hands, the physical feedback of the vibration and actually touching something is unmatched. Im sure in the future, bout 20 years give or take, everything will be all Motion control, Natal-esque, virtual reality funbags but for now I want a few buttons, two sticks and a vibrator....:D

It's not even out yet, Molyneux says it's going to change the world but he'd say that about freaking pop tarts if he had helped invent them.
Truth. Molyneux is so desperate for a real breakthrough in gaming that he talks up every baby step forward as the start of the revolution. Luckily, he's produced to the degree that people are still satisfied despite overhype, but his "Daikatana" moment could be coming if he's not careful.
I hope his "Daikatana" moment comes real soon. He needs a kick off of his high horse.

Luckily, I'm not buying Natal. I don't really want to flick my wrist or yell at the TV.

errr I don't know if I'd like it or not.

I'm sure there would be tonnes of bugs.
