Microsoft Now Owns XBone.Com

Major Nelson considers XBone to be "disrespectful."

If you were hoping to sneak in and register the XBone.com domain for your own nefarious purposes, your deviant designs have been thwarted by Microsoft. It swooped in and nabbed it [http://whois.domaintools.com/xbone.com], thus avoiding a potential PR minefield. Imagine if Sony had got there first; that would have been a Christmas to remember. The unnamed holder of the domain presumably got paid, but how much is something only the holder and the folks at Redmond know for certain.

Not that long ago Major Nelson took to a problem with Xbox One domains [http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=80744061&postcount=1058] but its previous squabbles have all ended in its favor. This one might have gone differently, but it'd seem the domain owner was willing to reach a deal.

Xbone.com is now Microsoft's to do with as it will. Somehow it seems unlikely that anything will come of this particular domain; Microsoft's not about to keep the Xbone meme alive if it can help it.

well, sorry you don't like the name. You shouldn't have called it Xbox one. It just nicely condenses into Xbone for anyone in passing. If you had called the infinity or something other then "one" this might have been avoided.

Hint: It's supposed to be disrespectful

I can't believe that M$ are such dumbasses didn't realize this would have happened when they named it. Actually scratch that, from what I've seen so far I'll believe it.

It's almost like they should have chosen a better name for their console.

I've tried calling it the One and it just doesn't work. It's not like the Wii where the shock factor wore off pretty quickly, you still feel like a tosspot quoting the matrix. So they managed to create a name where just calling it the 'Xbox' is preferable to using it, despite the confusion the causes. Which Xbox? Oh the Xbox 1. I mean One

It'll always be the Xbone to me, unless I'm calling it the One-Eighty to highlight Microsoft's back-pedalling.

You would think they would have realized that by now.

Hmm...are they going to own the domain rights to Xbox 180 too?
Because that's what I like to call it at this point.
But no matter what you do though Microsoft, people are still doing to find a way to make fun of your system.

Bloody spoilsports. And anyone who calls themselves "major" and is not in the military knows about being disrespectful.

It's just his gamer tag...

Not only that, but Major is actually a real first name.

You know how legos.com redirects you to a page asking you to say "LEGO bricks"? I would have expected something similar, but XBone.com redirects to a Bing search for "xbone". Most curious.

Also, someone needs to tell Microsoft to make more sparing use of that pale green color. Ew.

Sorry, Major Nelson, but it's hard for me to feel sympathy for the guys behind the Xbox One when the console's planned concept was such a big middle finger to everyone in the industry that everyone jumped off the Microsoft ship.

So I just did a quick search and xbone180.com is not registered. If it wasn't that I don't know how to make a website....[swear word]

If they didn't want people to mock it, they shouldn't have given it a a stupid name (One implies being the first, while it's the third Xbox). Those "features" they originally planned to have didn't help either.

xbox180.com redirects to xbox.com, so I guess that they already own that one.

xbone.com redirects to a bing search of "xbone".

the nickname was disrespectful to the people who'd put in thousands of hours to make the Xbox One a reality
Maybe the naming department should have put in a few more hours? Just a suggestion.

I'm just laughing at the idea that someone could have made "Xbone" re-direct you to that video of a guy literally fucking his Xbox.

It's good to know that Microsoft actually dislikes that nickname. I honestly thought they didn't care (being a multinational corporation and all) but I guess at this point they're just flailing for anything that might improve their image.

Silly Microsoft, you can't kill memes. They spread like cancer throughout the internet. You're not gonna stop people from saying "Xbone" no matter how much money you throw at the internet.

You know what? If I ever get an xbone or run across one on store shelves, I'm going to change the badge on the side of the box to read "Xbone", no matter how much Microsoft hates it. They made making jokes about their box too damn easy.

Sorry Major Nelson, to me your new console is and will always be the Xbone. Saying "One" is stupid, saying "The One" is even more stupid. Calling it just "Xbox" makes me feel like a dad, and if we go that route I might as well start calling every console a Nintendo. You picked a stupid name. You deal with what people turn that into.

It's like why you never name your child Isaac if your last name is Cox, that's just asking for unending middle school harassment. Insert link to appropriate Trenches comic here.
