What's really funny is that considering all the anti-consumer things they announced the console to have and all the hate those features ginned up, I'm pretty sure that no matter what they named it the internet was destined to come up with an insulting nickname for the thing. The fact that XBone just works so well in that it's nice, neat, and concise is purely coincidence. Like I bet if they named it XBox 720 we'd have just started calling it the XBoxFuckYou or something.

It's true. We'd be talking about the Failbox or whatever, but they didn't help themselves by picking a name where it's actually hard find a shortened version of it that doesn't sound stupid. I haven't seem someone find something comfortable yet, even in this article it's the 'Xbox One' whereas PS4 or 360 are pretty typical in articles about those consoles.

(Wii U is shorter and actually a lot easier to say out loud. It's hard to run the 'x' sound into other words in English, whereas it's easy with 'ee', especially when it's another vowel)

And of course XBone is disrespectful. They earned a lot of disrespect for their product with all of the unacceptable DRM junk.

Now they're playing catch up in the "please respect us" race. And the Xbone label won't be going away any time soon. More importantly than choosing a better name for the system, if they didn't want the system to be called derogatory labels, they shouldn't have originally designed and announced it in a way that would make gamers nigh-universally hate it.
