Okay I have noticed certain trends on XBL that I would like to share with you now.

Buying points from xbox live - you can never get the right amount of points for anything - much DLC is 800 points, some games are 1200 and picture packs etc are 200.

These are the common costs for these products, so why cant you buy microsoft points equal to or divisible by these numbers?

You always have to get an extra 2/300 points.

Its the damn hotdogs all over again?

I mean if you but enough points you will have leftovers to eventually get something else. I have 200 points in my account for the last 6 months

EDIT: Wii users can rant too!
you know they changed it to 400, 800, 1200, and 1600 right, 5$ for 400 points, the only thing that is messing me up is from when games started costing 560 and random numbers like that and now im stuck with an extra 70 points that i literally cannot spend on a damn thing no matter what i buy

The X-Box is the most wasteful PoS IMO, seriously having to pay just to play online, damn rippoff :S
This is no place for Xbox hating (That is how you spell it, every time you type "X-Box" a Microsoft employee chokes a kitten), children. That is what specified Xbox 360 rant forums are for! (They're there, look for them!)

And I rarely use points, but when I do, the leftover shit usually wanders around my account, not doing anything, right now I have 20 MS Points, what do I do with those?

Wankers.

There is no way that having to pay for using the online services can be justified. Sure as a console it may be ok (I have a PC and PS3 so between them I can play all games I want so a Xbox would be redundent), and neither of them force you to pay to play online, thats what ISP fees are for :p.
I don't count MMOGs like WoW because I dont play them.

And grow up instead of resorting to name calling over plastic and metal.

Um...I have only had one time where I purchased points at odd units so I had unused points otherwise I've allways been able to directly buy my games.

Lets see points in store, the recent change to point amounts on 360, Zune software, Purchasing them directly from amazon...I've haven't had too buy odd point units in a long long time, its fairly easy to just buy a unit or 2 and have the exact amount you need.

Of course there it is easy to justify pay for online.
the fact you actually believe sony or PC developers offer Online play for free because they love you is the easiest way to prove its perfectly fine to pay for an online service.

you actually believe these companies love you and this is why they are giving you something for free..Except heres the thing its not free it costs them money, just like it costs people money to host their own dedicated servers...they are giving it for free as some sort of bullet point as to why you should use them and play their games, they do it because it draws you in.

Xbox live is a great service with many great options, I have no problem paying for it because its quality, If Psn was quality I'd pay for it, If a pc service was quality and my friends played on it then Id pay for that too.

But right now psn hardly gets any playtime from me, and I dont have a PC capable of playing the latest games at all.

Sony is the same way. You can't put 6.99 in your account or 1.99. You have to add 1, 5, 10, or 25. Can't remember what else though

If Microsoft points are like hot dogs, then I'm honestly afraid to know what they're made out of.

But in all seriousness, they should let you be able to buy the amount of points you want. I believe it's already set up for a certain point-to-change ratio. Have a game that's out for 700 points? Spend 700 points worth of cash, and get it. I don't want to have 50 points off and spend about five extra bucks just to get that last little bit.

(PS: Does anyone else notice that the games you can buy from Xbox Live directly are always 30 bucks? Even if they're sold for 10 dollars at a store, they're always 30 dollars. I'm talking about the Games on Demand I believe they're called, not the arcade games.)

Nowadays if you have spare points, I recommend going over to the indie games marketplace where they have some great games for as little as 80 points. Then buy the duck picture for 20 points if you want to even it up.

I never know how much I'm actually paying for DLC and arcade games. If I bothered to actually work it out I'd probably be really surprised how much I've spent. But I never download those crappy picture packs or anything just to use up points. Well, I think I've paid for a couple of dashboard themes....

I love my 360, but the PS3 is better in these 2 areas.. knowing how much you're actually paying for content on PSN, and being able to download and make your own themes.
If you're in America, you pay $1.25 per 100 points. So 400 points cost 5 bucks, 1200 points cost 15 bucks, etc.

Word is that they are getting rid of the 'points' system all together.
The Escapist had a news article on it recently, though I can't be bothered to find it right now.
I'm lazy...and at work.
yeah, but all they'll do is make it so you can only put money onto your XBL account in values divisible by 7.50.
