Wow. Dickish.

Honestly, my primary concern isn't the price hike, that's evil enough, but for someone as paranoid as me, a switch to real money with no alternative to buy pre paid cards would mean a complete and total end to me buying anything via xbox live, and I'm certain I'm not the only one who's concerned.

Hopefully, they will allow people to buy "credit" for their xbox live account in much the same manner of microsoft points, but I don't know yet.

If so, well, then onto the business of jacking up the prices without increasing the value of people's existing microsoft points. Which is full on wrong, hell, it should be illegal. That's practically money stolen from right under people's noses.

If that's true shouldn't the points be at a discount ( there are manycards everywhere in stores ). If so i might just buy a few of em and try this DLC stuff people are talking about ( neve bought DLC , except costumes because a friend bought me an points card for xmas).

Meh . The points system was useless. However i disagree with the price hike.

Microsoft, why are you doing this, you've already won, I'm buying a PS4, you can stop trying to scare me off, Gawd.

Obviously they're trying to scare more people off their old console, or trying to come up with sleazy ways to raise revenue in console sale losses for the Xbone.

Either way, think I'll be going to buy one last Gold card before the update. I figure that another three month should do it, I still have about two left from the last one I bought, so that should put me comfortably near the PS4 release date.

well Microsoft need the money it sounds like those complaining just dont want to go to the future. Oh and points was always a bad idea one of the few things Sony got right at the start of last gen was using real world currency values instead of points.

Now they should both let us buy what we want and not make us pay 5 pounds and 10 pounds etc so we have wasted money sitting on our accounts (and yes I know the reason they dont allow us to purchase direct without a special card and it sucks). this game costs 11.99 buy credit now in 5 pound increments, er yeah get stuffed.

I hate any system that makes you exchange your money for something else that you use to buy things. I guess it makes things a little simpler at an amusement park or someuch but I've never understood the point of buying points on xbox live to then buy games with. To me it just seems like a system to get consumers to spend more money than they have to. Buy 1000 points but the game is 950, for example, and then you have 50 points sitting on your account and in basically 50 cents that you just gave to Microsoft and may never actually use. Just paying for whatever something is worth is such a better system.

So people just leap to the conclusion that it's Microsoft money grabbing again? Well, it's great to see we're ready to forgive Microsoft, jeez...
Yeah, they confirmed the price uppages were an accident.

They are reimbursing those affected. As you can tell, this is an accident. No need for pointless hate.

Besides, only people in the UK (like me) were negatively affected by this. Canada and Australia actually saw a 30% discount on Xbox Live. Also with the US it stayed pretty constant.

Update in the last few hours: It was apparently a mistake and they're refunding anyone that was overcharged.

In regards to no pre-paid cards; Steam and as far as I'm aware PS3 have pre paid "gift" cards you can buy in stores. So you can just pick up a £10 MS card and plug in the code and have £10 on your account. That's how I assume it'll work. They'd be silly to not give you that option.

Are they forgetting not everyone has a bank account or credit card to pay through Xbox Live?

And don't they already make a profit seeing those pre-paid cards? even if they're money grabbers, this seems like an absurd thing to do.

Plus, my sister isn't even done playing Dragon Age: Awakening or DA2, and I was hoping to buy DLC for them when she's done borrowing them.

What am I supposed to do get those DLC now, Microsoft? wait and hope Bioware and EA decide NOT to charge for their DLC?
