Say hello to Economics, inflation and the loss of value in the USD. Prices go up. I remember when gas was 99 cents a gallon.
Again, Steam, PSN, G4WL are all unaffected by inflation, what with them being free and stuff... (Is PSN free? I'm not sure...)

no they aren't unaffected the company just shuts the service down.

That has exactly what to do with a discussion about price hikes on a non-free service?

@Jaranja

I know, right? If anything, I was expecting a price DROP on those subscriptions. What the hell is up with this? I mean, how many of those user actually take advantage of ALL of the Gold features? I'm pretty sure that the majority of those players just buy it for online multiplayer.
You need to quote people instead of using the @ or they won't know you have replied to them.

I'm surprised people pay for multiplayer in the first place, let alone "free" content.

Plenty, since they're all basically the same thing. Hell, Steam offers more than XBL. I don't know what PSN's like but my understanding is that you don't have to pay for PSN+ to play the other half of your games.

Oh god not this again...

Logistics of Live 101 (or what your money pays for):

MS pays for:
- Content, matchmaking and friends list servers.
- maintenance of said servers.
- coders to implment features.
- backup.
- bandwidth to pay for all those matchmaking requests for games, or stupid invite all buttons.

and a ton of boring stuff i have no interest in, but is vital to providing a service where you can find your friends without needing several firmware updates.

This as far as I can tell is a price adjustment to bring it inline with others of us around the world and inflation.

$49.99 = £31
$59.99 = £37
Live 12 months card here in the UK = £39.99.

Quit bitching that your getting it a little less cheaper then the rest of the world. if it hurts your wallet so much don't renew your gold, SIMPLE.

Oh and all other british escapists, the price hikes up for us on the 3 and 6 month cards slightly, but the 39.99 12 month is unaffected as far as I know.

To those who view this as a rant, yes it is. but its a rant because I am sick of people going "MS are robbing us" "this is bullsit" blah blah blah about this.

Its 2 bucks a month and its the very first time they have ever done it, while adding all kind so of features to their service over the years free of charge. Unless they start hiking the price up regularly its not a concern.

Oh well, I'll just continue not having Xbox Live. Haven't been able to afford it in the past and now it's a no hoper.

Nice job on noticing the announcement made a couple of months ago...

But I really don't care, I'm thinking about just not buying a Gold Subscription anymore and just play games online on my PS3 or PC.

It's always been that way up here in Canada. So unless they're price hiking up here I don't need to worry. Hopefully it doesn't go up to 70 here...if it does...well bye bye ever buying gold again. Are they trying to ENCOURAGE people to buy PS3? On top of that Kinect is going to be 150$, that's almost the price a Wii, a console with BUILT in motion controls.

Ugh. I'm not happy with Microsoft, but at least it's only $10 more a year.
That's what they hope everyone says. Then they'll raise it "only" another small amount later.
