Google and Mircosoft are both trying to monopolise and acheive global domination.

Oh, and so is Tesco...
I am (as part of the Tesco War Machine) happy to be giving you low prices and cheap deals! But if you don't want them....
Closest to my house is a Co-operative, and closest to college is a Sainsbury's, so...
......so stop complaining if Tesco isn't affecting you
It's taking over the world though, I'm worried that I'm gonna be their slave in the near future.
You will be though....

shit shouldn't have revealed the plan so early 0.o
We all knew when I saw a cartoon of a Tesco shop in a GCSE statistics book

First of all...

Internet Explorer was out before all of the other browsers mentioned.
Windows was out well before the other Operating systems mentioned.

If anything, other companies are competing with Microsoft.

Also, Bing and Zune are failing miserably. There are some things that Microsoft is good at, but it is also trying to diversify it's offering, much like Disney. Microsoft also has a voice-activated in-car communication system called "Sync" that competes with OnStar.

Since computers are more prevalent now in everything from music to cars to gaming, it's only natural that Microsoft would be involved.

If Microsoft starts producing things that are in no way related to computing, then we could have a problem.

What difference does it make, they're all going to have to get their real estate from Donald Trump eventually; or maybe another landlord buddy of Bloomberg.

If you think about it, Microsoft is competing with just about every major technological front there is; and much like the console wars you could say Microsoft is trying to one up just about everyone
Examples:

I find this to be interesting is all, Microsoft trying to take over certain markets (while both failing and succeeding)
They are trying but they are mostly failing.

IE may compete with Safari, Firefox, Opera, and Chrome but all of them are better than IE. I'm fairly sure the only reason 95% of people use IE is because it comes bundled with their machines.

Bing isn't up against Google, no one is. The only thing Bing is up against is the 100s of other search engines that you have never heard of.

Zune isn't competing with anyone until it has a cellphone and GPS built into it. It might have competed if MSFT didn't screw all the 1st and 2nd gen buyers out of all their music when MSFT parted ways with their music subscription provider.

Windows Vista/7 is only really competing against XP. People who buy Macs or use Linux are not going to switch (and it looks like most people who use XP aren't either)

360 is pretty much their only win. Even with the RROD, it will continue to dominate the PS3. I refuse to compare it to the Wii because the Wii isn't aimed at the same market.

I will add that Live is competing with Steam but Steam would win easily if it was available on consoles as well. I would dump Live in a heartbeat if I could have Steam on my 360 instead and I know I'm not alone.

To be honest, I think MSFT is mainly competing with themselves and often shooting their own foot.

The same could also be said for Google.

If you consider Microsoft have been competing on more fronts for longer is it actually Google that's 'warmongering'?
True and not. Google has been trying to find ways to provide services without charging much to the average joe (free search, free office, free maps, etc. Only advertisers really pay). MSFT will fine a home user for tens of thousands of dollars for having Office installed on more than one machine at once and still take Advertising money.

They are only simaler in the sense that Google is more like Robin hood while MSFT is more like the Sherrif of Nottingham. They're both characters in the same book but one is the villian and the other is a good bad guy, neither is really clean and both want to bang Maid Marien.

New products appealing to different consumer niches?
Impossible! Horrific!

And I didn't even go to business school.
