He's the voice for the squad's sergeant ("Buck") in ODST and he's also a grade-A Halo addict.

Two of your squad-mates are Adam (Jayne) Baldwin and Alan (Wash) Tudyk, so think of this as a mini-Firefly reunion.

(And your boss is Tricia (Number Six) Helfer from Battlestar Galactica.)

He voiced one of the main characters in ODST. He was also a minor character in Halo 3.

EDIT: Guess I've been ninja'd, and his info is more complete than mine.

what would have sold me the game was keeping the price at a reasonably priced $30 expansion. Now i'm just going to wait a couple monthes till the price drops then pick it up used from game crazy or craigslist.

This could work. If anyone knew what the hell reach actually was, I predict some form of interactive movie myself. But I'm not buying this for the beta, I'm buying this for sexy Nathan Fillion.

Yeah, they've got a good point. I'm going to end up buying Halo 3: ODST regardless of the beta key code, though; I've been planning to before I knew about the beta key and the fact that they're now including it AND the fact that around the time I get it (Christmas) I'll also be able to reconnect to Xbox Live are just added bonuses.

Pay for bragging rights and the chance to be a douche? Micro$oft makes it's money the Blizzard way. Again.
Er, what?

Anyway, the title is a bit misleading. They're not attempting to sell copies of ODST based solely on the fact that there's a beta for Halo:Reach in it: they're saying that they think this beta conjunction will produce better sales results than the Crackdown one. This is actually a legitimate (if slightly flawed) line of thought, given that ODST is supposed to be a far different game than the other Halos.

What a strange angle. The Crackdown demo didn't sell Halo 3. Rather, Halo 3 pushed the Crackdown demo to people who wouldn't have given Crackdown a second glance otherwise. Hence Crackdown sold a shedload, on the merits of the demo.

Now, people who buy ODST will get a demo of Reach, which they were going to buy anyway. It's a wasted opportunity.

I wonder how Reach will actually play? If Bungie continue their trend then probably a completely neglected single player with a worse story than the previous games like Halo 3 to focus on multiplayer that will probably have a few new changes and be completely overblown by media hype because it has Halo on it. Yippie?

Halo should just die before it's milked even more and becomes like Sonic.

There's enough story there that needs to be told. It's probably not going to be milked at all, after Reach and Bungie leaves, I can't see any more than 1 or 2 titles cropping up.

So if you NEED the disk to get the beta, doesnt that mean theres some encripted code that can be hacked into to get the beta early .

I'm probably wrong on that but if I'm right then I'd laugh when someone cracks it and sets it up on youtube.

Meh I'll pick it up a year later when it goes down in price. I'll wait for Microsoft to send me a beta code separately (if not then meh to that as well).

Seeing as it's an online, multiplayer-only beta, good luck with that; hopefully the would-be hacker will find his/her futile effort to join an empty multiplayer game from a file yet to be uploaded to a server rewarding enough that the resulting permanent hardware ban on his/her console won't sting too much.

What does ODST stand for?

Just curious.
Orbital Drop Shock Trooper.

And I think, or at least hope, Reach's multiplayer will be different from Halo 3's - or at least I hope so. I mean, we know it's an FPS, so okay, there will be some basic similarities, but I do hope they'll be doing something different with Reach.

Uh..... I never tried the Halo 3 Beta. I don't like the idea of buying a game just to get limited access to another game. I remember seeing people buy Crackdown just for the Beta, play it, and then neglect it. That's a waste of a game. I decided to get it after the beta closes. And that was a smart move in my opinion.

McGill should just get his head out of his ass. Halo 3 ODST having the Reach Beta was never a selling point. That was the new Campaign, Firefight, and the three Halo 3 maps bundled with every map from Halo 3. The problem is that people will have different perceptions of buying the same game. One person will buy ODST for Firefight. One will buy it for the Beta. It's all a matter of taste and personal preference. Not using it as a selling point.
