It's only useful to promote a beta when you know a little about the game. I (like to think) I know a bit about the backstory/lore(?) and still don't know at what period of time they even set the game, nevermind; who is involved, whether there is anything inovative in comparison to Halo 3 or if there is anything new at all.
I don't want to go out and buy a game after seeing only the box art, however I want ODST and I'd just add it as a small bonus.

this is like giving a slice of cake with a cupcake.
who really buys a cupcake for a slice of cake?
***best attempt to translate games of a series to desserts. crackdown/H3 would be cookie/cupcake or slice of cake

I wonder how Reach will actually play? If Bungie continue their trend then probably a completely neglected single player with a worse story than the previous games like Halo 3 to focus on multiplayer that will probably have a few new changes and be completely overblown by media hype because it has Halo on it. Yippie?

Halo should just die before it's milked even more and becomes like Sonic.
and mario, link etc.

There's hundreds of characters and series that get milked. Anyway Bungie said that reach is their last halo game.

Unless they're tossing the novels canon out the window, the time period is just slightly before Halo 1, because Reach was totally glassed. The who, multiple covenant vessels with tens of thousands of grunts, jackals, elites, and hunters (no brutes, no flood) vs the entire Spartan II program sans 5 Spartans (John-117, Linda-058, Kelly-087, and Fred-104, and Kurt-051). Six if you count that Spartan chick from Dead or Alive (Nicole-458), but I'd hardly consider a crossover fighting game character "canon".

As to new things, innovation, etc... Think Halo 1 sans the armor.
Nice to see someone who actually knows their Halo canon. Not a massive fan of the Halo-verse, but the books were a good read [they certainly held my attention longer than Halo1+2]

I might get ODST, just because at last we don't have to play through the game as someone in Mjolnir. I've hardly read any info on ODST [just cause thats how I roll when it comes to new games, the pleasure in finding out for yourself is much more enjoyable than reading up on every single piece of info you can find about a currently unreleased game], but I'm hoping its less gung-ho and guns blazing than Halo3.

Plus more Tudyk and Fillion? = yes plox.

Wait, what is Nathan Fillion doing there?
He's the voice for the squad's sergeant ("Buck") in ODST and he's also a grade-A Halo addict.

Two of your squad-mates are Adam (Jayne) Baldwin and Alan (Wash) Tudyk, so think of this as a mini-Firefly reunion.

(And your boss is Tricia (Number Six) Helfer from Battlestar Galactica.)

...

I think I just had a Halo-gasm.

[sub]I knew Nathan Fillion was in, but I definitely did NOT know Tricia Helfer/Adam Baldwin/Alan Tudyk would be in there! :p[/sub]

Chances are if your a big enough Halo fan to care about getting into an online only multiplayer beta you are buying ODST anyways. So I gotta say I disagree with him. As good and fun a game as Crackdown was, the Halo 3 beta DID boost it's sales. This beta in Reach is pretty much just icing on the cakes of people who would buy ODST anyways.

What does ODST stand for?

Just curious.
Orbital Drop Shock Trooper. They are dropped into hot zones usually from low orbit in single man pods. Most of the time they are in relatively small squads. Think of them as like the Navy Seals or Delta Force of the Halo universe.

The Elites in Halo also have a version of ODST's but I'm not sure if Humans copied them or if Elites copied Humans. (or if they both came up with the idea seperately)
