Now the big argument here is whether the winners coach should be punished for letting the score go that high. What do you guys think? Should the winning team be punished?

Don't middle school sports have some kind of mercy rule? I mean at some point it goes from winning to waving how much the other team sucks back into their faces.

Well, obviously the one team is abusing steroids. There's no other way that they could have pulled that one off.

Anyway, that kind of game is just boring and painful to watch. You just know that at some point the losing team just kinda gave up.

I'm just laughing at the idiots calling for the winning team's coach's head. Sheesh, the guy had his team play tough and aggressive until it became apparent they were playing against a team of sea sponges, at which point his guys let the sponges take shots unopposed. I guess SpongeBob just isn't a great basketball player.

Seriously though, I think a mercy rule should have kicked in at halftime. 70-0? Game's over folks.

Personally, I don't think that the team should be punished simply for being better than the other team, it sends the wrong message to the students that they shouldn't be talented, else they suffer the consequences. The winners probably trained hard to get that win, and now they should be punished for it? That is a poor message to people, particularly students that should be trying their best to get the top grades in their respective classes.

Isn't the entire point of a coach to make your team win, even if they don't want to? Sounds like the winning teams coach did well, and the losing teams coach sucked.

And no I don't think a coach has a large effect on a teams strength, but they sure should be able to make a team that can do a layup occasionally while unopposed.

I'm only upset they allowed those 2 points to happen in the closing seconds. The winning team should have preserved the shutout and buried there opponent's will to ever play that sport again and if possible stomp out there will to live with the blowout.
And I'm upset that my eyes are now sore from having to read that obnoxious red text.

No he shouldn't be punished, its not his fault the other team had no business playing basketball, no mercy rule bullcrap and let them soak in their complete failure.

Hark! Mine eyes doth linger upon the enemy (LSU alum here)!

Looking forward to a great game Saturday!

OT: This is one reason that lower level sports remain entertaining: you get potential future pro's mixed in with kids who have less athletic ability than my infant daughter. Anyone else recall the story about he middle school football RB who had a special rule written about him stating that he wasn't allowed to score more than 5 times a game?

Only thing I wonder about is how could such a game been held it was obviously a class difference (I'm talking about a strengh class not a school class okay?)

I did giggle at that tiny child playing, surely when you're only about 2 foot tall basketball is prolly not your most favoured sport.

The winning team should not get punished. It isn't their fault they can play well. How would you like to be punished for being good at something?

umm, i don't think anyone is saying they should be punished for being good. I think what people are saying is that after 50 f-ing points ahead, the coaches should have probably got the picture that team A had won already, and stopped the game. It's what is called a mercy rule; once a team is a certain number of points ahead, the game ends early and that team wins.

Wait since when are you allowed to keep score in America? :p

Well I don't know what the deal was but it sure smells fishy, you don't get that score if people are actually playing, so the match should have been cancelled on the count of WTF.

Yeah, there's no way the coach and team should be punished for just being good at what they do. That's just silly. I certainly wouldn't like it if, say, I was part of a TF2 team that just dominated the opposition in fair matches, only to find that we were disqualified from the next big pro tournament because we were just too good.
