They are an experience, no say the least. I went to the midnight release for Skyrim. It was my first midnight release and I enjoyed it. The line wrapped half way around the building (not a big building), I was half asleep, and it was 38 degrees (Farenheit, so just above freezing). I saw one of my friends toward the front of the line, he had just got a foam chain saw from the fine people at Gamestop. My point is that, I think everyone should go to at least one.

What's your experiences with midnight releases?

I've been to a few, but my favorite was for GTA IV. The Gamestop in town actually got a few cops to come out to light the place up with their lights and chat with people.

I found it very awkward, as I was certain the police would be the most murdered people in the game. But, they were cool, it was cool.

Never been to one. Closest thing was when I went to a concert and decided to be there 12 hours early just to get in first.
Did I mention it was -18 degrees Celcius?

Needless to say; I was sick as fuck when we finally got in, so I had to go sit down at the very back of the concert area.

I went to one for Dragon Age II. One of the Gamestop people dressed up, and they raffled off a poster. I talked about penguins with a few people there. It was awesome.

I went to the midnight release for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Played in the little launch tournament they had, too. It was a pretty good time, until I lost to an Ike who got me with his Final Smash.

I also attended Street Fighter IV's midnight launch, and fought in the launch tournament. Got quite a bit farther in that one, I still have the headband I won for beating everyone at my store.

It all depends on the people, both in the store and out freezing with you. I haven't gone to a bad one yet, but I've been to a few lackluster ones. Normally though, you meet people who share similar interests with you and who keep you entertained for the couple of hours between 10 and midnight. Still not loving the whole "the box is right there, I paid for it, but rules are that until 12 I've got to wait outside for it" thing. Also, I'm kinda hurt when the game store decides to be dickish and put the game in a console and just let the title screen taunt you, but I'm absolutely PISSED when someone decides this means to plug in a controller and start playing the game I'm waiting out in the cold for, the game I preordered and thus wanted to go into it fresh with nothing but my hopes and the small amount of details that convinced me to preorder seeing me through.

I've been to quite a few. I go every time the releasing game is one I'm super excited about. I love them. Very enjoyable experiences, they really are.

im not a fan of midnight releases, its those damn images of black firday sales chaos that make me refuse to go to any
besides at the shop i preorder my games at always delivers the games 1-2 days before release
i dont have to stand in line at terrible temperature in the iddle of the night just to get my hands on a game the very moment it comes out, sure for you it is pretty exciting but for me it is just not that great

I've never been, not through a lack of trying. Every time there is a midnight release I either don't have enough money to buy the game at release or anyone who could give me a ride is busy. But someday, someday I will get to a midnight release and it shall be glorious.

First off I have been to a few and they are REALLY fun, but I don't really find it worth it because when you get home you feel to tired to even play and you could just go and get in the morning because there is no guarantee that you will get anything from the gamestop sales associates and even then it some dumb card board cut out, display box, or a poster. When I went ever one acted like greedy little animal out for the feed and it sort of ruins the experience if you ask me.

Once.
It was a pretty sad spectacle. Glad I was really high for it and dragged a friend with me.
Never doing it again but that's mostly because the gamestop by my place is staffed by the most obnoxious bunch of morons this side of the short bus.
