With the fact that it's been easily proven that there was no intent to cause harm, his hacking can't be seen as malicious. In a court of law this 'should' cut down on any jail time he would face.

I'm from the UK so already you USA people won't really care what I posted but I also have AS and I can see where the man was at the time. He was just curious and soon got addicted. I'm addicted to gaming so that's my little happy problem but he should get at least 6-7 or 4-10 years in prison here in the UK. 70 years is just taking it too far even if it is to prove a point.

How did he cause the damage anyway?

Apparently he deleted more than a thousand user names as well as critical system files.

Apparently the US government doesn't run backups on their "critical systems" then...

I'm not blaming him too much. I mean, if the US government is using windows, what do you expect?. And it was probably good that it was a UFO nut and not a terrorist or enemy. So as many other people pointed out, he actually did a lot of community service too.
