Reuters [http://www.reuters.com/article/us-cyber-passwords-idUSKCN0XV1I6] broke the story first.

"Hundreds of millions of usernames and passwords, now circulating in the criminal underworld."

According to The Guardian [https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/may/04/gmail-yahoo-email-password-hack-hold-security], the ones most at risk are people who reuse passwords for different sites.

This video [http://www.reuters.com/video/2016/05/04/massive-email-hack-hits-millions?videoId=368369182&mod=related&channelName=cybersecurity] is worth a watch, if anything just to hear the security expert forget how to pronounce the word 'plethora'.

.

The majority of those hit are account holders under 'mail.ru', with millions still being gmail, hotmail, and yahoo mail accounts.

Thankfully my passwords are all different for every site. Unique, each and every one. My simplest password is for my luggage however, the combination being 1-2-3-4-5 [http://movieactors.com/photos-stars/mel-brooks-spaceballs-6.jpg].

I've already turned on two-step verification for gmail, how about you guys? You all sick of this crap as much as I am?

I guess it was a good thing I started to compile my accounts a month ago and also, oh come on! I just changed my passwords a month ago too!

I forgot to mention that one of the methods used was hackers accessing poorly maintained servers on retail sites.

If it's any consolation, hey at least our internet connections are secure; we're just connecting to ill-maintained servers that nobody can be arsed to take care of.

That could explained why one of my accounts in one of shopping site was hacked a few weeks ago despite I didn't fall into phishing (my own fault really cos I only used it once and I forgot to delete my bank account on it. Don't worry the payment didn't went through but I had to get a new card).

I have a few passwords for the sites I use. And some are unique to that site.

Its pretty darn annoying when I'm forced to update my password to the new standards of nowadays. Needs to have a number, symbol, lower and uppercase letters. Can't be an old password (why are you storing that ?). Been blessed to have never have an issue of someone stealing my information.

Shoot. Better let my Russian friends know. ;__;

There's a reason why my Gmail password is completely different to my other ones, though.

99% of the credentials have been seen before. This has not been corroborated. This is not new, although it appears to be news. Hold Security released a similar press release two years ago - which was not corroborated, and ended up with them advertising a pay-for service to check whether any of your credentials were on their list.

It's good policy to use a different password for each service you use - and to use a good password manager if you cannot manage that many strong passwords.

Stay safe out there people.

Thankfully I huge crazy long passwords with Capital and small letters, special characters and numbers and different ones for all my important stuff. And extra verification if available. So I'm not that worried tbh. But I'll change my mail pass just in case.
