Make a 128-block high castle that's 100 blocks long and 100 blocks wide, divide it into 4 block high floors with stairs going from one to the other, make each floor a maze, and don't place any torches.

anc[is]Block out the sun. Get tons of stone, and at the highest possible point on the map start a ceiling/floor whatever large enough to block your normal stomping grounds
^^THIS^^ So much fun and gets rid of all that pesky cobblestone. Also makes a great world for being constantly attacked by enemies.

OT: Make an underground fortress. Clear out the area in your favorite mine(you know you have one) and just make a big ol' castle.

Do what I did.
First make Cosco (to store stuff in), then dig a 64x64 hole in the ground that goes to the center of the earth.

If you finish that, then I've always wanted to try to build a missle silo.

That would be amazing but id need to mine up the whole world getting all the stone, and i would probably shred more picks than jimmy Hendrix after 127 cups of Coffey.

Okay here's a little experiment I want you to do okay. You're in this world all by yourself, you have all the time in the world. What would you like to see in this world?

Now go build it already.

I had to start a new world after a few unfortunate incidents filled my underground base with lava and I just saw no point to try again.
So right now, I'm building a house out of dirt, till I can get enough stone or brick and then I'll replace it. I suggest that. Its a nice easy project, and its functional as well. Mines 6x15x5 so far.

Because it, as a letter, is unappealing and seems rather phoned in. Z, honestly? Three haphazard lines? Give me a fucking break.

you just used it ;)
What i wonder, why do you think N is ok then?

On Topic. Build a giant creeper out of green wool and tnt, then lure as much creepers as you can to it and give them some of their own medicine

basically iv recently gotten mine craft and iv gotten a good feel for the game and built a good house and can move around the world with ease. but now that my house is built I want something to work on. Im not really into the whole sculpture or statue building thing. I would like to build things im actually going to use
I will actually go the opposite way everyone's headed so far and tell you to start small.
Building something huge can take a lot of time, and there's always the chance you get bored of that project and leave it halfway completed.
Open mspaint, use Ctrl-G to activate the grid, zoom up to 800%, grab the thinnest pencil and start drawing a shape that appeals you. Then use that as an inspiration for your creation.

Isengard. Build Isengard.
Yes! Build That. Then build some hobbits so you can take them there. Also find a valley a few miles away and build Helms Deep.

It takes time to get use to making obsidian, i know it took me forever to figure it out without going online to know, but after figuring it out its easy to farm it. After that making the portal is pretty simple, but never attack the pigmen in the nether if theres a lot near you, because they're passive and if you kill one they all come after you lol.

I wish you could build ships... you could build one and then build a dock. Then build a seamonster. Then fill you ship with dynamite and use it to kamikaze the sea monster construct.

And build Mordor.

You need to build a giant black (insert other name for rooster here).

It's not as bad as you might think.

first, carve out the entire side of a mountain so that it is a straight face. Then cover that face in solid obsidian, build your gate to the nether at the bottom of this. I've always wanted to do this btw...

Oh and if this sounds impossible due to how long it'd take to mine it all, make buckets... LOTS of buckets... Then fill your inventory with buckets, then take the buckets and fill them with magma. Then place the magma blocks them on the wall and poor water over them. Instant obsidian!

*EDIT* holy shit! brainwave!!! I know we need a valve block that lets liquid through when it receives power, but what if you simply modified a dispenser??? If it has a bucket of liquid in it then it will act as a source as long as it's receiving power! IDK i know it's more complicated to code than this and that if it were that easy than it would already be done. But i believe that everything in minecraft should have as many uses as logical. Like the dispenser can act as a trap, shooting arrows and such, and now flowers have uses as dyes and so do cacti. Bones are becoming more useful... Basically it cuts down on the list of crafting recipes you need to memorize and makes the game feel deeper when objects have more than one use.
