My girlfriend has pretty much the same problem, funnily only since 1.8.1 was released. She was playing 1.8 all night when it was released and had no problems, but as soon as she updated to .1 there was heaps of lag in singleplayer and it's started crashing a lot.

I haven't found a problem yet. Not one.

There's slowdown and the odd 3D icon that does not disappear whenever exiting a workbench when you still have stuff in the grid, but other than that it's all been smooth sailing for me. I haven't even stumbled across the dreaded smelting crash, or any number of things considered game breaking yet.

Maybe b/c I erased all my previous worlds and started from scratch?

Played it for probably four hours on my rather old mac, and so far I haven't had a single problem. Odd...
Maybe it's because I deleted my old worlds and started anew after 1.8 came out?

I updated to 1.8 before the private server I play on did and then dynamic address stopped working. I hear the server is running 1.8 now, I'm going to try again tonight, hope it works again.

When I couldn't get onto the server I started a new world map because I didn't want to walk for days before hitting new lands. My 4Ghz Sandy Bridge Quad with GTX 580 was running Minecraft like it used to run on my netbook, just chugging away at 12 FPS. I have 2gb of RAM dedicated to java and that was more than enough in the past. I might try starting a new world on fast settings and see how that goes.

I swear to god I'm not gonna replace them if that's the problem, I got like 40.
Apparently when 1.9 comes out you need to make all new worlds

I have NO performance issues at all, except that it runs out of memory every two minutes.

Three days to a fix, probably. I can wait.

Question: Are you running the game on a 64-bit operating system? If so, you have to install the 64-bit version of JAVA in order for the game to not run out of memory all the time. I did it, and the game runs smooth as butter now.

Bullcrap, the new stuff like with 1.8, will appear in new chunks. (i.e get off ur blocky arse and go explorin :) )

As for performance issues, my laptop has them at times with 1.8, not as much as 1.7 did.

Best advice, wait for optifine to come along, should help it out.

As in the code will be different so old worlds won't be able to work with it (again, supposedly)

The only problem I've had with 1.8 is that I cannot change the time of day using F6 and F7, but thats not that big of a deal.

Loading up the world lags me for so long now. I also had to look through over 5 pages of 1.8 spam on the Minecraft forums to find a fix for an issue I had.

I don't know if it's 1.8 related but on my main world Mobs don't seem to spawn. I have like 2 cows and 3 chickens. They don't disappear and none more spawn.

I'm on a laptop and it is only slightly more laggy than 1.7. World loads fine, game runs fine, chests are a bit buggy with the lighting but I can live with that. Only time it got really laggy was when I was having an epic deathbattle vs 3 spiders and a creeper because my tactical retreat caused me to load a new chunk during the fight. I survived... barely.

I've not had any problems running it but for some reason it won't let me log in. I'm having to play offline at the moment which sucks. I was annoyed that I had to start a new world though because none of the villages or dungeons spawned in my old one.

My copy has been getting 'memory errors' since 1.7.3 came out, so this is nothing new for me.

I've been having memory leak issues since the 1.8.1 patch as well. My Java skyrockets to 1.3G of memory being used before my Minecraft finally gives up and drops me to 1-3 FPS. Very very annoying.
