Nobody really knows. It's just bug fixes right now and then an actual release. Could be the middle of the night, could be next week. Either way it's not even the full release so an actual date isn't something that should be expected. I'd check the twitter feeds of Notch and Jeb as they'll probably have the most recent news on the subject.

I thought it was estimated to be Nov 2... maybe 11... First half of November last I heard.

That's when the game goes Omega, full release.

There has never been an official release for 1.8, but there have been several estimated release dates that have already passed. Now we have estimated releases for updates of unofficial patches for the first half of 1.8

lol.

Well, there you go, beats the hell outta me then, lol. I thought Omega release was scheduled for Dec. Eh, well. That is interesting Omega is actually the November date though.

Possibly a week or two from now.

I checked the per-release and saw that the game had too many flaws to count. It's currently riddled with countless gamebreaking bugs that must be resolved before the release. Because of this, I'm actually glad that they decided to hold back on it, reassuring us a stable finished product by its official release.

Until then, it's likely that they're releasing an updated version of the per-release tomorrow, so no worries.

I have it seems pretty slow but that may be there are too many players playing it
Not apart of the equation at all. Minecraft isnt an online game unless you join a server. It only asks you to log in at the beginning just to prevent piracy and to make sure your running a legitimate copy of the game.

1.8 is just buggy, it would have been released earlier today if it wasnt leaked, they just didnt anticipate this many bugs. The lag people are suffering from is coming from specific configurations. 1.8 actually runs much better for me personally then 1.7.3, which is why I am still playing the leak despite having massive gamebreaking bugs like the furnace crashing every time I use it.

This is just saving time later so you don't have to have versions 1.8.1 through to 1.8.9. That would also lower the chances of them having to postpone the November 18th release date. 1.8 is still pretty broken, I mean the leak doesnt even include everything that it was supposed to, like NPCs. I dont even want to know what AI problems they have currently.

A lot of people are on the side of independent developers, yet when they run into very understandable problems they turn their back on them entirely. There are some that are constantly whining about Notch ruining Minecraft's development and that someone else should be designing it. It's particularly annoying since almost the vast majority of it's players have no clue how the game works and how much manpower went into it.
