I found this game yesterday and it seems fun i guess, bit hard to grasp the controls, but still fun.

Has anyone played this game yet besides me?

For discussion value what ever happened to all the minecraft clones?
Did they fall into the fiery black pit of despair or are they just on holidays?

it looks different. i might give it a go when i get the chance, people are seriously jumping on the whole retro cube thing
I would love if Mojang came out with a space expansion for minecraft but with 0x10c i don't think it will happen.

But most of the knock offs have died due to lack of interest.

You mean Infiniminer knock offs, right? Because that is what Minecraft was copied from.
No, they are Minecraft knock offs, since they're trying to copy what Minecraft did in terms of gameplay and the resulting popularity, not what Infiniminer managed.
Edit: Something OT would be nice... the last space Minecraft, Blockade Runner it was called, I think, was a disappointment, so I am a bit sceptical about this.

The clones are actually doing pretty good considering next to no money goes into making those, sadly they still all miss what bumped Infiminer over to Minecraft.

And Corneroids has the same problem, ya the mechanics are there but you really can't find a reason to keep going.
Maybe it's better to just point devs toward Terraria, if you can't do subtle elements then hit the boss/loot combo.

This actually seems pretty cool. The controls work well in a fully 3D Space. There is still a lot of work to be done, but the design is very elegant so far. Hell, in the few minutes I spent with it, I even managed to build my first, extremely rudimentary spaceship. The entire process is surprisingly simple, though you probably will need the wiki (I know I did) and I can already see how building a larger vessel could be a lot of fun, assuming space itself is actually made more interesting. I will be following this project with great interest!

So, starforge with minecraft graphics? Well, that's what it is.
I don't think you can build spaceships in Starforge. Well, right now, you can't do all that much of anything, but I don't think space travel is one of the planned features. In that sense, Starforge is actually closer to Minecraft in gameplay, while corneroids is more similar in graphics.

I played it a bit and I really like it.
It obviously still needs a lot of work, but I see great potential in it.

Huh. Shame this thread didn't get more attention.

If you haven't seen it yet, go find the Corneroids thread on the Bay 12 forums. 49 pages last I checked, they're really into it.

I got kinda addicted myself, too, especially when I put lighting effects on and turned gamma to 0. Exploring pitch black asteroids with only a flashlight in zero gravity? Hell yes.

Got a functional spaceship, too, after my cubeship was a colossal failure.

Neat. That kind of game in space, alone, could have a really great atmosphere (zing!) if pulled off right. Something Minecraft does well when deep in a cave by yourself.
