And here's the source [http://notch.tumblr.com/post/2175441966/minecraft-beta-december-20-2010]

The big changes are:
1) Price increase to 14.95 Euros
2) No more guarantee for every single future updates for free if you buy after the 20th December.

Do note that
a) if you buy before the 20th December, you still get every single future update for free, and
b) the change is due to the lawyers running scared primarily, according to a couple of [http://twitter.com/notch/status/13634723863597056] tweets [http://twitter.com/notch/status/13641331955990529].
c) people who bought it during beta still get any update from now until release for free, plus any bug patches post-release.

The beta will focus on polish, bug fixing and a stable modding API, and some kind of story.

Anyways, discuss.

It's no big deal, certaintly not worth the shitstorm it provoked anyway.

Unfortunately it looks like Minecraft isn't going to be massivley larger as a full release than it currently it. I'd hoped for other people in the world and a lot deeper crafting.

I feel sorry for the people that are buying it after Dec 20th, but really, if you haven't bought it until now, I doubt you're going to.
Unless of course Notch gets proper advertising going and picks up speed in casual gamers.

Hehe, Minecraft on Facebook.

Indeed. The relative lack of content leaves something to be desired.

But Beta really just signifies they got the game working on a reliable level.

Excuse me gentlemen, I will be buying it now. Was hoping for it as a Christmas gift, but I'll take it while I can.

I'm planning on waiting until it is a finished, full-priced product before I buy it.

But, that will just cost you more...
Why not do it while it's cheap and get all the updates for free?

To be more specific, a whole 10 Euros + cost of any expansions/DLC post-release. (Yep, the plan is still 20 Euros on release).

Really? It's already entering beta? I always assumed I would like it more down the road when more content had been developed and it had been polished properly, but if its already going into beta than I doubt it. Maybe Notch let all the recent success go to his head?

It's not finished yet and I have no interest in using Paypal at all. Ever. That and there doesn't appear to be any official documentation or tutorials around how to actually play the game so if I actually wanted to get heavily into it I would have to trawl around a bunch of wikis and websites in order to learn how to play, which I don't want to do.

The plan was always to enter beta once Survival Multiplayer was in. Survival Multiplayer is in, of sorts, so now they go beta.

At first, hearing that betas will receive no updates, but then when I knew that it was only you have to buy the game when its fully released ,then I was fine with it.
So,nothing really interesting here.
/v/,however had a whole shitstorm about it.

Still doesn't change my opinion that the game doesn't have nearly enough content to justify my purchase of it. I've tried playing Minecraft 3 times, but each time I just get bored. It's a shame because it really seemed like the kind of game I thought I would like, but people vastly overrated it.

Just my opinion though.

Seems fair, the always free update thing rewards people who have funded it's development, plus you still have a week to buy it and get all the updates free for ever. It's always seemed to empty a world for me and I'm not very creative, so this news won't change my decision.

Already have it so it's no big deal about the updates. Seems to work fine for me as and now that survival multiplayer actually works seems like a sensible time to rock up the beta... Although I imagine it'll be in beta for a long while until the full working working product comes out.

Saying that Notch's team has increased from 1 person to a group of about 8 (I think) in the space of a month or so. Stuff should start happening a lot fast now (I hope).

I was always curious enough to consider it, but not curious enough to just go ahead, but I guess if it's going to be like that, I might as well go ahead. I just hope there's more to do than make floating f bombs in the actual game.
