Sweet. A wolf pack will go great with my obsidian skull fortress and lava lake. Here's hoping there is the possibility of dying them black so they go better with my doom fortress.

I would love it if they added a "Rope" recipe, so that we could tether wolves to guard specific areas. These "Tethered Wolves" would need to be fed one raw meat a day or one cooked meat every two days. Your "Wolf Pack" should have a limit for harder difficulties, just to refrain from the inevitable "Wolf Army." I would count "Tethered Wolves" separate from the "Pack".

As for the "Rope" recipe: three string in a line makes one rope. Three ropes in a line makes one long rope. One rope can reach a meter and a half. Long rope can reach five meters (I know the math is off, it's intentional, for simpler calculating in game). Rope attaches to a stick to make "leash" which can be placed like a torch (on the ground or walls, maybe ceilings depending on usefulness). Ropes can be attached to carts and wolves for a dogsled (Wolf follows the track, even uphill).

Wow, a lot more than I meant to post... all this off the top of my head. I need a life.

Now if only they added NPC's that would flee in fear of me and I could live out my "Most Dangerous Game" dream.

That's exactly what I've been thinking! People, villages and shops. If those were added, I would buy it immediately. I haven't bought it yet because I think I would probably get lonely and bored.
Single player isn't boring during the first week but after that it gets lonely. I mean you've got your fortress of doom and now what? I do have get creative once in a full moon and end up making something amazing but in the end, I can build everything I can think of with the free version. There's just not enough single player content. If the world felt more lively then minecraft would have an amazing single player. As it stands...

The multiplayer portion is amazing though. I fully suggest you buy it with the mindset of playing multiplayer and not single player. Multiplayer adds a whole new goddamn layer to the game. Hell, I should know. I spent 24 hours straight playing SMP with a friend building a huge underground complex. We slept for 5 hours and the moment we woke up we went on adventuring. 18 hours later and a dozen burnt forests later we were still going strong. It's quite amazing what multiplayer can do to a game.
Then there's the fact that my old shit PC can't run it smoothly. I don't think multiplayer can fix that. (Can't be bothered to upgrade, I play consoles.) That does sound like fun, though.

It's a neat idea, but I feel like the idea of other humans never really fit with the whole "man vs. wild" thing. It's you and your blocks of dirt vs. everything else. NPC's seems like it would defeat the purpose.
Of course, it could be a different mode, like "City Exploration" mode. The real trick would be creating procedurally generated villages. If that was perfected, that could be really cool.

I don't see the reason to add a whole new mode just for adding villages and other things. To be honest, Notch could just let you turn the villages on or off. Either way, they wouldn't bother you. I mean, you could just ignore them and in the end they won't impact your experience since you can ignore them.

They look more like dogs than the wolves I'm used from the Mo's Creatures mod. And wolves in that mode are a complete and utter *****. As bad as zombies, but they don't die when the sun comes out.

Then again, you can actually tame these. SQUEEEE!!!

I both agree and disagree. On the one hand, I also find single player to be ultimately boring; more of a tutorial for integrating yourself into a multiplayer setting. However, the beauty of Minecraft is that no two people play it for the exact same reason, and it can appeal to nearly everyone on some level.

As an example, my two roommates. One of them likes to explore and gather resources. He doesn't really do much with them, but he likes the thrill of going into a faraway cave and coming home with a plethora of goodies that I get to use in our ever-expanding city. The other one doesn't even really play multiplayer, as she is perfectly happy just having uninterrupted access to her own world, where she is free to do whatever she wants and build as big as she can imagine. For a long time, I just liked starting new games. I loved the rush of the first few nights: getting a shelter made, finding vital resources, and building up enough to go from surviving to thriving.

Then there's the mod community, which I haven't enough experience with to really comment on. Point is, if you're not finding the fun, it's not the game's fault.

Also, puppies are cute, and I can't wait to have a billion of 'em!

Interesting idea... might be somewhat too specific for Minecraft, though (the wolves, not the rope).

Also, let's make that rope attach to two blocks as well. That way, my hanging gardens aren't being hung by three massive columns of sheep wool.

It didn't look like they were agressive, before tamed, which would be disapointing as it would make the game a bit easier.

If they add wolfs that walk around in water and people get excited over it, I wonder what will they think when they finally add the flyng elephants. :)
