Why what? Do you ask? Why what indeed. It is a mystery of the universe.

A while back, console Minecraft outsold PC Minecraft. Why use console instead of PC?

PC has custom texture packs, skins and (my favourite) mods!
Its a valid guess that if you can afford a console, you have a PC capable of running Minecraft.

Can anyone explain why you would realistically choose Console over PC? I mean Minecraft, not the war.

Minecraft = Very popular with kids.

Kids don't always have access to the family PC, or indeed a PC.

Also local co op.

If we all truly wanted to do everything in terms of what is objectively best, we'd all be doing the same thing.

Also not everyone who plays Minecraft wants to play with mods. I certainly don't much care about much else but the base game, I don't even really like texture packs.

Does this really *bother* people?

Why must it be assumed that the acquisition of a gaming PC is the logical end point of any and every games enthusiasts' desires? It's terribly, terribly obnoxious.

I can't explain, except to note that my 7 year old nephew was given an old 360 so he could play Minecraft with his friends on-line even though he had a perfectly good PC at home. (Obviously the PC version not getting love form the preteen audience). Doubt he'll be modding it anytime soon.

Well for allot of us console gamers minecraft is really laggy on the pc the controls on keyboard are a little stiff and it just flat out can't do high graphical commands on most computers that I've tried to play it on. With the console version all crafting is easy to do, the graphical settings can be raised to maximum without having your console explode with lag and the controls are much better to work with. Plus with most casuals that want to play it the console is just the easiest way to play the game.

True.

Only a few years ago I was using a PC that could barely run the Binding of Isaac at it's usual speed.

also, OP, no one's buying a next gen console to play Minecraft. A last gen console that people are likely to have already doesn't equate to also being able to afford a gaming capable PC. If you're in it for very few games, there's little reason to upgrade or obtain a gaming focused PC, in the same way that there's little point buying a next gen console for Minecraft.

Not to slut shame but ... minecraft is a whore and people are stupid. "fuck, I already own the PC version, the vita version and the IOS version ... why not the console version?"

This fucking barely a game is on 13 different platforms! It was only released 3 years ago and each owner has only put about a trillion hours into it but shit, they haven't had the console version yet so they will hoover that up like sugar at a fat kids party.

It's the new digital crack and everybody is addicted.

I don't mean to sound bitter ... but I am, so that is how it comes across.

(I should say, I only think it's stupid to buy 1 game on loads of different platforms. Buy minecraft on one thing and there is nothing wrong with that but do you need that much minecraft, that you need to buy multiple copies?)

Don't know, but the sheer number of griefers and youtube channels devoted to said griefers is pretty funny. The laughably small world size is pretty funny too, dig down 6 blocks and you are at bedrock, think that might be fixed now but was still a laugh. They also pay for skins... Yeah I said pay for skins?!?!?! A fool and his/her money as they say.

Also to believe consoles are some unified force hell bent on overthrowing the King of Minecraft the PC is the realm of The Console Defense Force, pretending they are not bitter rivals that would see the other bumped right out of the console market is delusional. The fact still remains it took two platforms to get the console that far.

It's pretty amusing how poor it is in comparison to the PC version, but, I suppose it's intended for a different audience.

It's perfect for kids just looking to play with blocks.

No problems playing it on the PS3 here. I have it for PC as well.

Edit: To contribute a little better, I use PS3 version more as it's hooked into the TV and I can mess around on it from the couch when I'm bored. I'm not super hardcore into the game so don't care about mods or costumes, etc.

So gathering from the OP and the 2 others that have shown up already that this thread is going to become very identical to the "Why choose console when you have PC?", yeah I think It's time to report this, this isn't going to go anywhere, it never will and it will get locked either shortly or another 11 pages later like the previous thread, there is no one answer and the discussion will just spiral as always, hell we've already got the insults on already.

Yes, but not at max settings. There are a lot of us out there that don't know enough about computers to upgrade that kind of thing.

Minecraft on PC has its perks. Mods, more updates, bigger maps.
Minecraft on console has the ability to run the game "right out of the box" at max settings with little to no fuss over the graphics. My PC can run it, yes, but only at short to tiny distance. Sometimes I can eke out a normal.
My console can run it at far. That's something that shocked me when I first played it on console. "I can see all the way over there?! AMAZING!"

So there you go. Some of us do not have the knowledge to upgrade something like that. It's far easier to simply put a disc into a console and play it right away than it is to put a disc into a pc, let it download and update, and then find out your computer just isn't powerful enough to run the game. (in general, not just Minecraft.)

Some might prefer to play minecraft on a console, nothing wrong with that. So my question is, why not?

affordability might come into it as well
minecraft is one of the first fully fledged games in ages that was released at $25 (where i live )
and no, not every one has $1000 (again where i live ) to sink into a pretty crappy PC, $2000 if you want a half decent one.

Ive played since early beta and it remains one of my go to games every day.
I play on the PC in my back room mostly, but if its to cold, or if my wifes reading something in the bedroom I will jump on the PS3 version so we can be together in the same room. The PS3 version for me is something to do in between doing other things, like watching tv shows etc

I am basically one of the consumers you hate, as I also have the pocket edition on my phone.
but my phones screen is a bit small to get much fun out of it.

AAA titles release here for $100+ collectors editions coming up to $150 these days.
So yeah $25 sounds about right for me.
Ive played games since getting my Commodore 64 on my 13th birthday, I also worked for a gaming shop. So I consider myself a veteran gamer (23 years and counting). I would not hesitate to buy further copies of Minecraft if I was to ever have a kid as well. I may even preemptively buy some as he / she will be at least 6-8 years old before I introduce them to gaming, and peaceful Minecraft fits my idea of an entry level game for kids.

I've put in a thousand or so hours into the PC version back in Alpha and Beta and eventually I started getting really painful carpal tunnel symptoms (which is odd because in all my years of gaming that's never happened.) I think it's the nature of having to hold down the mouse button for so long to dig a lot that fucked my wrist up.

I tried mapping a wired 360 controller to my computer for a awhile but it was always slightly screwy and I gave up.

So I switched over to Minecraft on 360 and can actually play again. It's not as great because of the tiny map size but other than that it's fine.

Exactly! Hell, I would have bought Minecraft for the PC back when it was still mid beta, but the computer I was using at the time probably would have imploded the moment I tried to start the game. My current laptop isn't much better as Flash is constantly trying to crash on me, so trying to play Minecraft on the PC is still an impossibility for me. Besides, while the console version might be leagues behind the PC version and not have mods, that doesn't make it any less playable than the PC version unless you're one of those sad people who won't even look at a game unless it has mod support.

I don't know why people assume that Minecraft is some easy-to-run, lightwieght game. It's horribly optimized.

Oh come on, a PC vs console flame war thread just got locked, do we really need to go down this path again

Why? Why not? Let people do what they want with their games! I've had a lot of fun with both systems. At least with the Xbox version I don't need to go through the fucking nightmare that is setting up a server (My friends and I STILL haven't figured out how to do it. And we've spent god damn hours trying to get a private one going)

Because why the hell not?

I do not give 2 shits about texture packs, skins and mods and I like to play games in my living room.

I have two reasons.
1)My Xbox is placed so that I can play from it from my bed. By the time I got Minecraft for the Xbox my home set-up didn't allow for a direct link between that tv and my pc. I find Minecraft relaxing, and thus I play it a few hours before I go to sleep, in bed.

2)I wanted to play with a friend and he can't run it on his laptop.

Having said that, I also own the pc version.
