ya know people always ask us to help them choose/find a bunch of games for them to play. Whatever happened to manual research? When I'm itching for a game I go look for one on brick and mortar or the digital downloads section. Then I read a wiki article about them. see some reviews. see if there are good video reviews of them. And then I decide based on pros and cons that cater especially too me.

I suppose just posting a forum entry would be easier though.

I did. I just want a second opinion. Plus it's more of a money thing, and I like to hear from people what they thought of a game in terms of money/worth.

Honestly this is an easy choice ive been playing minecraft for a very long time and to be honest it has infinite replay value i dont even build really in minecraft because theres so much else to do than that, the mods are amazing, the adventure maps are vast theres an amazing amount of texture packs creating a hilarious skin is always fun the community is great and the multiplayer is just plain amazing i mean you can go on a server just to chat and have fun with your mates or like me you can join a role playing server or a pvp/war server where they have citys and mods which let you become a different race have special abilitys have your own kingdom your own factions and clans all sorts, i mean hou can even have partys and make your own music with redstone and note blocks you can be a pirate assassin or gladiator theres so mucb hou can do but i must admit when i saw the trailer for terraria i was like wow and when i bought the game for about a week i didnt touch terraria i loved playing it woth my friends cousins and strangers but eventually i realised there wasnt much else to do it gets boring fast especially if you play it non stoplike i did so i played mine raft again to see what it was like and i havent touched terraria since trust me terrarias a good game but its a no brainer go for minecaft plus in the next update for minecraft notch is adding adventure mode to the game so it wont just be a build game anymore like so many people seem to think it is

Very different genres with the main similarity being multiplayer with construction capabilities.

Minecraft = First Person Sandbox, think Garry's Mod, except you extract whatever resource you want to build with from the world and its creatures. Less goal-oriented, more creating giant doomsday devices for hours on end to threaten cows and Lego skeletons. The game's coding has some memory leaks for Windows, so if you have an old Windows PC, take that into consideration, as your framerate might suffer.

Terraria = 2D Platform Action RPG, think Symphony of the Night in a threesome with MapleStory and Garry's Mod--good for the coop action and fighting monsters, less so for long-term personal projects. Has that classic MMO problem of becoming dull once you hit end-game content. I should also mention that Minecraft's been around longer in development, so it will probably stay ahead of Terraria on features for at least awhile.

read more reviews? I dunno it goes without saying that this entire website loves minecraft almost as much as ponies (god help me if someone figured out how too fuse those two things the world might become 20 percent more insane) so it's a pretty biased place to get a second opinion from. If you really have done the leg work and you just don't know then don't buy either. Go play some free flash games. Learn to operate Mugen. experiment with special tech designed to play outdated console games. And let your money build towards a sure thing. That's what I would do.

Well I've played both (illegally). And I'd say neither. I don't think they are worth the money. It doesn't have that much replay value, the only fun part is doing it with friends. Solo isn't a lot of fun, and when you're mining you are pretty solo anyway. The cruising togheter has a few lol-moments, and then they both die out.( But if my friends would stop being derps, and buy, say L4d1/l4d2, We could do that online, which is much more entertaining.)
Anyway, terraria has more stuff. but Minecraft is 3d. 2D building just doesn't cut the cake like 3d does. I'd still vote terraria though.

I vote Minecraft on this one.

terraria has it's charms, but as many pointed out, minecraft is for building and having fun doing so.

Terraria is more of a survival game.

And hopefully in the upcomming 1.7 update to minecraft Notch will implement adventure modes ^^

Thanks for all of your opinions and suggestions. I think I'll go with Minecraft...once their site starts accepting my card...

Its a major issue of preference, minecraft has the first person 3D look, and is almost entirely about immersion, building, and roleplaying to an extent. Terraria has building mechanics that are just as impressive, but the game and its future updates are also built to accomodate combat, exploration, collecting, its more than a building sim. Plus since its 2D, its a platformer as opposed to a first person game.

So again, minecraft for immersive building, terraria for a broader range of gaming options, and platforming.

Now me personally I prefer terraria, the exploration and combat is a nice touch but all in all I just like the art style and 2D more, as you can build and view some pretty cool stuff from that perspective.

That being said, I don't see the harm in having both, the prices are well worth it.

Terraria was released before it was meant to be.
definatly terraria especially with friends.

If you want a full 3D creation tool that's kina fun, but not too big on combat, Go with Minecraft.

If you're looking for a 2D sidescrolling beat-em-up RPG with mining elements and a bit of contruction on the side, Terraria is a better bet.

Spelunking, Terraria
Bulding, Minecraft

However I would say Terraria since they are patching things A LOT faster then the minecraft crew are.

Everyone else has already said what I possibly could, the differences are mainly the graphics (SNES quality 2D or NES quality 3D), gameplay focuses (combat with building vs construction with monsters), and Terraria can't generate endless worlds. Huge worlds tho, room for both

I don't know anything about terraria so I wouldn't know I just said to go with the game that's actually finished not the game that's finished and up to spec.

Normally, I agree, but in this case it's more like a playable pre-order. Mojang has already said that anyone who buys the beta gets the released version for free. Which in turn means you end up paying less, since they've acknowledged that they'll sell the finished version at $30-$40 versus $20 for the beta.

Additionally, in this case, people paying for the beta is where the funding is coming from. Mojang (and Notch specifically) didn't have a lot of start-up capital. Now that Minecraft is raking in Millions off beta sales, the team has the chance to utilize more development funds and begin work on other titles.

Realistically, too, if you like games like it, Minecraft is well worth $20, even at it's current state.

I'm really glad a friend of mine bought me Terraria, so I didn't have to waste my money on it. I really didn't like it.

So yeah, get minecraft.
