Minecraft "running out of memory" despite giving my Java 5000 megabites for it's runtime parameter

Hello, Escapists. I'll get straight to the point and say I have no idea what's going on, and that I was hoping someone else had this problem and fixed it. The only solution I've found online was to increase the amount of space on my hard-drive allotted for Java's runtime parameter, which hasn't helped. I've been told it might be the texture pack I use, but I've used this texture pack before and the game ran fine.

Thank you for any help you can give, and, if you have none, thank you for your time.

Is it black screen crashing during play? If so try reducing the render distance, worked for me. Pity because I'm sure my computer could run it better.

No, it gets a "running out of memory" error. Render distance doesn't change it.

This has been happening to me also, I actually decreased the render distance and it caused one of my worlds to be unplayable.

That sounds a bit worrying, never had trouble with draw distance changes (just couldn't stick around on Far setting).

At OP: Actually I have had some trouble with Texture packs, so I deleted them and my .minecraft bin folder to force a redownload and it worked again. But this was an update ago.
I am using texture packs again, they may be new versions though.
