I will never replace Fury, my trusty pig-steed! NEVER!

Unless I get really hungry, maybe...

Like any new feature that Mojang teases us with... there's already a mod [http://minecraft-mods.org/simply-horses-mod/] someone else came up with.

And the mod is usually less restrictive.

Most people knew this was coming when Jens 'accidentally' showed the horse files at Mojam.

Can't say I'm too excited. I'm not a horse person in RL, we already have a way to travel long distances, plus we already have more than enough livestock type mobs in my opinion.

I've heard rumors the next update will be a terrain update of some sort, which if true excites me much more than this.

I really don't see how horses will be particularly useful, speed potions are cheap and easy to acquire. Unless of course you can use them to make glue.

And given their current record of updating those systems versions of the game, we probably won't see it for at least a year.

Minecraft: Stealing ideas from its own modding community since 2009.
I'd point out how Valve do similar, but they don't steal, as they give money to people that create stuff for them.

I'm curious, do Mojang?

I bought Minecraft back when it was in beta but haven't played it much recently. I can't help but wonder though: How long would the game survive for if there weren't constant updates? It's basically just lego put into a game with more stuff to it, but the game could be so much more.

For instance, if the game was basically the same but you had a lot more freedom with placing things, would it be better or worse? And by more freedom placing things, I mean not limited to the block structure Minecraft is known for.

People still play Minecraft?

Damn, I got bored of that years ago :D

Curse my crappy imagination.
I still have an outline for a doom fortress I never got around to making.
I'm afraid to go back or switch to the PC version. So many other games I need to finish.
Damn, DVS, sounds like you have artists' block.

[sub]that was terrible[/sub]

OT: It amazing that such a small company made such a big impact. I do kinda agree with Notch that it makes everything after seem almost pointless ):

One of the great things about Minecraft is that there's a ton of new stuff that wasn't there years ago. And unlike the AAA industry its a free update, not paid DLC.

But horses exist in real life... It was not an original idea created by an individual/modder.
I will consent, however, that somethings in Minecraft now were originally mods, like the piston. But is it stealing if Mojang asks for consent?
Pretty sure they don't, at least none of the automation modders mentioned being asked about the hopper.

But its also bullshit to call it stealing, unless you also want to say that CoD steals from (Doom, Wolfenstein? Whatever the first FPS was).

i recon it could still do ok. as we see with that server thingy they were talking about a few weeks ago its not just adults/teenagers who are playing this game its also getting parents and their kids playing as well.

now i dont doubt that it would start to lag a bit in some circles if the updates stopped but the modders would still carry on and if it starts to get (unless it hasnt already) a good kid friendly rep in parenting circles it could keep going for a wile as every year new parents want to find a nice safe game for their children to play without all the violence and many probally played with lego as children themselfs, so might be a little put off with the whole computer side but accept that the world has changed and this is as close as they are going to get to what they experienced in their youth

Ooh, fun! I was wondering when they'd finally put in horses.

It's too late for me, though. I already have a faithful Minecraft steed: Porkofax, Lord Of All Oinkers.

Didn't they have horses as a mod months if not a year ago? Oh well, nice to see it's still getting support after all this time.
