Probably four months ago, one of my friends introduced me to the free version of minecraft. I played it a little, thought it was kind of fun.
I looked up the Alpha version, and was stunned. I bought it, and for about a week afterwards I could hardly function. All I could think about was Minecraft, and what I wanted to do next.

Topics like this have probably been done already, but I'd love to hear some amusing stories about other peoples' Minecraft experiences, because of something that happened to me the other night when I was playing.

I was building a complex circuit for a combination lever door for my hideout. It took about two hours to finally get right, and even then I didn't know what I had done to make it all of a sudden work. I was backing up to admire my work, and I bumped into something. I turned around, and found myself face to face with a creeper. BOOM! Several hours worth of aggravating work, gone.

Aside from creeper stories, there was the time that my brother spawned on an island made of sand, with the only other spot of land in sight being a dirt island with a single tree. Now every time he dies he has to swim for 10 minutes just to find the mainland.

My house looks pitiful and bad on the outside, it's my first house: a simple one-room cabin.

However, hours went into the complex labyrinth I put into the basement.

once i found a natural cave that went deep down
i had all my equipment on me including raw material since i am an idiot
i go down placing a trail of torches until i reached a part with a fire and a chest
inside was bread and wheat that i took readily

but a nearby zombie took serious offense to mew messing up his home and killed me

scorned i ran back down into the same cave and killed him and was promptly murdered by one of his nearby friends

angry i made myself a wooden sword and went down again only to realize that there must have been some terrrible miner accident down there and now they have returned for revenge since it was swarmed with zombies
after being murdilized for a thrid time i took some dirt and sealed that cursed place away forever

I made a fortress of Cacti. Nothing gets in or out. I talk to others like the French from Monty Python and the Holy Grail from atop my Cactus fortress, firing my cannon at my friends in our private server.

They don't take kindly to that and sabotage my cactus fortress with TNT.

10 hours later, I finish my fortress made of cacti...

There was once a time where I built a home suspended in the air and supported by pillars. The only way up was by a ladder in the center. One day some creepers spawn in front, and one of them was trying to get to me. However, it appeared it could not climb a ladder. I spent 2 entire Minecraft days, going up and down the ladder, teasing it. Eventually it must have gotten fed up with me, and climbed the ladder, exploding once it reached the top. I died, and my entire fort was destroyed.

I got lost in a cave for a long time...
I finally found the exit, it was a small hole I had jumped through to get into the initial chamber...
It was a pretty big cave too.

Well I don't play Minecraft, but Dwarf Fortress usually results in very similar stories.

For example, my last fortress known as Townbrush was built on a terrifying tropical ocean, which basically means everything is a zombie or skeleton and is trying to kill you. I figured this wouldn't be to bad, and I could ultimately overcome them and accomplish my goal; building a pointlessly large tower. However, I soon found that the local wildlife was far more threatening than I originally thought. Not soon after construction on the tower began, it was overrun by ogres. I was forced to retreat, abandoning the tower. The ogres basically turned it to their own little hamlet. They just chilled in the basement, waiting for some poor civilian to wander in their, as the graveyard was ironically placed beneath the tower.

Eventually my military reclaimed the tower, but its construction never continued. For from that point on Townbrush feel into an endless decay. Between the forgotten beasts, goblins, darnen, and zombie whales, keeping the fort itself together was hard enough. So the tower was forgotten, and rather than being a symbol of glory as I had intended, it was instead a testament to my hubris and failure. If anyone were to ever visit the shattered remains of Townbrush, they would see that tower rising from the earth, surrounded on all sides by fields of corpses and rusting weapons.

Here's a picture of the entire fort in Stonesense. [http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/7109/stonesensetownbrush.png]

The white walls are marble, and the yellow ones are gold (yes, I tried building it out of gold in some areas. You can probably see this didn't work out). Now, from that picture you can see how the fort looked in its final years. However, it doesn't reflect just how many things died there. This one does [http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/4083/townbrushend.png]. Now I know it's hard to understand this screenshot unless you play DF, but here's all you need to know; all the letters with red splotches around them are corpses.

I suppose the big difference between this disaster and one sin Minecraft is that this took over 20 long years to actually come to an end.
