As many Minecrafters will tell you, this is a surprisingly scary game. The sheer randomness of the world means you have literally no idea of what might be around the next corner, and if you have ever found yourself deep underground with no clear exit and a dwindling supply of torches you'll know just how scary that can be.

Well, it just got a little, or a lot, scarier. As of the latest update spiders can climb up walls.

Yeah, those castle walls you've built? Not so safe now, are they?

For discussion: what's been your scariest moment in Minecraft? I'd say mine would be one of my first nights above ground, when I'd built a little cabin on a hill but made the mistake of not having any torches. The horde of monsters that ammassed around outside the cabin that night, and the noise of them all was quite nerve wracking.

NO.....oh dear god please no. Up walls?!

Fuck.

As for my scariest, it involved a spider actually. The first night, I had been mucking around during the day so had no coal for torches. My home was a quickly-built fort that I'd modified out of the natural landscape... As I huddled in the darkness staring up at the sky, listening to the spiders and skeletons outside, I began to feel a sense of calm as I could sit here in safety.

SUDDENLY SPIDER. The fucker dropped out of nowhere onto my face, as I was staring upwards.

Seeing one of those scary motherfuckers literally spring out of the night sky hissing at you made me jump like.... I don't know, it was terrifying :(

mine is I was under ground and I saw zombie I forgot I wasn't playing multieplayer and once I realized I didn't have a sword I couldn't make my way in the hole out and I died.

My scariest moment so far was minutes after the last update when a spider dropped itself through the roof of my hastily erected shelter and proceeded to end me rather swiftly...

Around the edge of your fort (with the lip pointing outwards)? Can they climb upside down, or just up vertical walls?

I'd been excavating the insides of a mountain for ages and building my own cavern, when I came across an absolutely HUGE "natural" one - this thing went on for fucking miles in around 4 different directions. It made making any headway by myself impossible, since I was also having to deal with exceptionally large, dark cave-insides full of spiders and creepers. In the end I section it all off by a wall with a door in, and dug in the other direction.

My next scariest moment came when I went down to the area with the wall and a creeper had gotten into my once perfectly secure underground lair. Scared the living fuck out of me.

Skeletons. In the dark, when you're mining. And you can't see them, they're out there somewhere, and they keep... on... shooting... Eeergh.

I play on my brothers laptop (my computer is crap) so I don't get to play much but I am working on a pyramid with my house on top that is a small cabin with windows tool table furnace and chest first night I had to run into my house because I was building it and I didn't leave time to put torches on it and I was just looking up with a zombie walking on my roof (their were stairs up to it that I left behind as I was finishing it just before it became night time) so I had similar experience put less scary as the glass roof protected me.

I just made exactly that rather hasty addition to my tower walls. As far as I know it's only vertical walls they can climb.

For now at least *shudder*

It's surely only a matter of time before Notch introduces the ultimate horror... imagine if there was a monster that could dig...

I remember once I was coming out of my mine and guess what happened to be right in front of me? Not one, but TWO creepers, I freaked out and of course there happened to be a 100 something cube deep mine shaft right behind me, so guess what happened when i jumped backwards?

Well this was a while back before I was really any good at Minecraft (I say that. I still suck at it :p ) but yeah, even them walking around is creepy enough :(

You can just put another block on the top of your wall. spiders can't climb upside down.

My scariest moment was when I wen't out at the end of the day because I thought I could take a quick spawning spider and kill it (I need another string for my bow) I climbed up on a hill (creepers keep jumping down on me)and waited for dark.
I looked around and I didn't see anything spawning when suddenly, 6 spiders spawned between me and my house...6 fucking spiders ran towards me with their glowing eyes and ate my shins.

Now my spawn point was close and I didn't have anything very valuable on me when I died so I thought I would be fine...after running away from zombies and skeletons and whatnot I finally make it back to my house just in time for dawn...at which point a burning zombie hits me and knocks me down into the hole with my pet creeper (his name was Creepy, R.I.P)

I have countless stories of being down in caverns, deciding whether or not to just leg it away.

My scariest moment was heading down into my strip mine from my completely secure fortress for maybe 30 seconds, then coming back up, turning a corner onto the stairs leading to my tower and a FUCKING CREEPER was suddenly in my face. Hissssss...BADABOOM. It took 2 game days of rebuilding.
