I've been playing Minecraft on a friends computer, and wanted to download it on mine because it's fuckin' awesome. Anyway, I went to the site, downloaded the beta, and went to play offline. Unfortunately, I can't click the button, because apparently I haven't downloaded it. Since a lot of people on this site seem to play Minecraft, I was hoping someone might know what to do. I already tried google and youtube but couldn't find anything helpful.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: No, I haven't made an account yet. I was playing the free alpha. Doing so worked fine on my friends computer, but whenever I try I run into this:

I'm curious what you mean to.

at the very least, if you have a valid account you could always play in browser.

what do you mean "I haven't downloaded it"?

Did you buy it?
I guess I should have been more clear. Underneath the "play offline" option, there's a message saying (not downloaded) and I can't click the button. I'd show you an image, but I can't upload anything to imageshack right now either.

I wasn't aware that Minecraft had a play offline function. I always have to login to play.

I think now it's about $18.
My friend downloaded it right off the Minecraft site, and he didn't have to buy it.

If you click "login" without typing anything into the boxes, it gives you to option. Like I said, it worked on my friends computer, but I keep getting the (not downloaded) message.

You have to buy Minecraft. It's not free.

I did what you described, and I found the play offline mode, and it's playing right now. But I bought the game. I don't know what else to tell you.

Minecraft is NOT free. But it's WORTH buying.

Edit: Well, Minecraft CLASSIC is free, but that's just the creation mode.

There was a one time only thing where a very old version of minecraft was available for "free" without authentication due to the servers dying for 4 days or so, so notch made the game available to play without requiring login.

This is now way past, and your only option is to purchase it.

The beta is pay-to-play. Your friend probably downloaded the classic mode, which is free but lacks almost everything that makes the game good.

Hope that helps.
