So, I'm thinking about getting the great new sensation that is Minecraft!
I was just wondering though, is it worth the price? Any major issues that would make it not?

It takes a certain type of person to really enjoy it. I know I'd never get that much out of it, I don't have the patience and the lack of an overall goal or objective would leave me wandering around aimlessly. Best thing to do I think is to watch a lets play of it. This one is particularly good.

If you've ever enjoyed playing with LEGOs, you'll probably get a kick out of Minecraft.

If you like pointless, addictive indie games, you'll love Minecraft.

If you want your game to have a plot or an overarching objective, Minecraft (in its current incarnation) is not for you.

If you don't like dicking around and building stuff for no reason other than "it looks cool", Minecraft probably won't do it for ya.

Personally, I've paid more money for games I didn't enjoy as much as Minecraft, but I'm a LEGO nut who likes building stuff because it looks cool. It's right up my alley.

All of these people are talking about the building aspects of the game. But I think the real point of minecraft is the exploration. With a world 8 times the surface area of the Earth and some really breathtaking scenery at times, it's worth a look. I spend my entire time spelunking pretty much.

Why not go on the website, click single player, then click free ... it should take you into a game to test it out but you don't pay a thing.

I would but my PC is throwing up an error that I can't be bothered to sort out now, going to format my computer then give it a whirl.

Nine USD? I thought 9 euros was about 17 USD?

It's great, but it definitely takes certain types of people. Some people build massive projects (ie. 16 Bit Computers), some people love collecting resources, some people like exploring caves, some people like blowing up sheep. There is a ton of things that you can do, and it's only for 15 bucks. I'm sure you've spent far more than that on a some other crappy game.

I say yes, mostly because I enjoy spending hours building a project that will likely be destroyed in minutes, and because survival mode looks really fun. Also, you should look for that one video where a dude accidentally burns down his awesome house by trying to create a fireplace. Apparently, stone can burn from just a simple fire.

I bought it a few days ago, it's alright but if you don't like building stuff than you are out of luck. I'd say it isn't worth it if you have to ask if it is, but on the bright side, I get all future updates for free so maybe it'll turn into something great one day.

That's really, really cool. I'm gonna get it.

It's great if you like any of the following: empire building, coal miners, Legos, exacting petty revenge on wildlife, strip-mining, huge engineering projects, stunning panoramic vistas, the Civ series, Robinson Crusoe, the idea of manifest destiny, the Western frontier, etc. (BTW, In my opinion, the game's fantastic; in its own way, it's more beautiful than Crysis or Uncharted.)

Well, I'd played the free version for a while, but was never sure if I'd have fun with the Alpha. Then, when the servers went down and he called the free to play weekend, I downloaded the Alpha and tried it out. As soon as the servers went back up, I bought the Alpha.

The little non-updated demo is free, but that really doesn't do the game justice whatsoever. And if you get in on the ground floor now, you won't have to pay anything else if the price goes up.
