i still say its 4chan trying to kill us. look at the last paragraph of thier statement.
"anyhow, no we're not from roblox, or any other minecraft clone, not to mention none of us have been around 4chan for years, and nor has any real 4channers for that matter, its all newfags now, and has been for quite a few years."
this stinks of 4Chan...
Dear god can you be any more uninformed?
When this started I was browsing /v/
I started the first thread on these attacks. Nobody there had any idea what was going on.
/b/ was quiet too so it wasn't them. Those are the only two boards who have anything to do with minecraft and they both love it. In short, anon isn't doing it, they want whoever is doing it to stop because they know the move makes no sense except as an impatient, childish gesture.

Well if they are just script kiddies trying to DDOS attack they are traceable because of the script they are using I believe, I'm sure with the popularity of Minecraft that atleast one of them will get caught and the attacks will subside after

Could it be possible the people doing so are just being quiet? I've never been on 4chan but I assume people lie there as they do in real life. Just saying :/ they could be covering themselves.

Classically these sorts of people are known as Phreakers or Phreaks ... not Hackers. Hackers are like ninja, leaving no footprints. Phreaks destroy everything they touch, they make sure you knew they were there. Wish people still knew the distinction...

My thoughts exactly.
You know what my response to this would be if I were Notch? I would shut down the servers completely and say "There! Happy now?"
and what would that do Pray Tell?
Hopefully teach them that acting like spoiled brats gets them nowhere. An added bonus would be if all the other players who enjoyed the game but weren't involved with this nonsense, got pissed at these guys and acted accordingly.

I can't say I've tried Minecraft, but what an utter bucket of rancid fucknuggets, without wishing to be impolite.

It's a game written by ONE guy, and yet when Valve or Blizzard says 'The updates will be released when they're ready, because we actually care about quality', that's fine.

One guy desperately trying to make the best out of possibly his one big shot at making it, and this group of absolute...nozzles decides to throw their toys out of the pram about it.

I'm siding with Minecraft.

He does seem like a good person so I'm sure he'll stick to his word and end up releasing a game which most people would be happy with.

It's just these days I have little faith left in humanity. Whether it's the few fans who will never be happy with whatever state he finishes Minecraft in and will ***** all over the web about it (or do retarded shit like this). Or Notch himself who, despite all good intentions, let's people down at the end for any number of reasons both good and bad. Although isn't there an old adage about the road to hell being paved with good intentions?
Think about it for a second. How has Notch let ANYONE down? He gave us no expectations, then gave us Minecraft, which if released today, would still be the best sandbox ever released. For cheap, no less. At this point, he can't "let someone down" unless they now get all entitled on us and demand he keep up his current pace.

Oh, wait. Excuse me while I'm unimpressed with those he has "let down".

So they bought the game but did not get their promised updates? Honestly, I can see the reasons behind their actions and I can even relate to them.
But they take it over the line by punishing all the other players.
Like I've said before, I can relate to their reasons. I'd be pretty pissed if something like that happened to me (fortunately, I don't care) and I would sure as hell have my revenge no matter the consequences. Rage and frustration can be truly fascinating and it's amazing at how they affect a humans ability to emphatize.
No, you can't. Not in this context. They've been getting a steady drip-feed of updates for over a year, the well has gone dry for a few weeks while he preps a massive update on Halloween that adds fish, new realms, new blocks, new enemies, new craftables... AND HE ANNOUNCED THIS TWO WEEKS AGO.

The trolls cannot redeem themselves now.

See the problem with threatening the guy is that he can just say "okay" and roll up his business and move out leaving the attackers with nothing and him with a game that he can still build (seeing as how Alphas don't really need playtesters) thus completely skull fucking there attack. You can't threaten someone if you have no real leverage.

On top of that these Alpha Trolls (The trolls other trolls call trolls and avoid) are so far stuck up their own asses about there desires (if they actually are the attackers) that I'm surprised they haven't chocked to death on their own heads. I really don't know why someone would attack a game that has done nothing and is still in Alpha. Who does that?

If I could, I would find the guy who did this and smash his computer into a soda can.

It was a completely hypothetical "let down". I have nothing against the guy and from everything I've seen Minecraft is a great game for people wanting a sandbox.

But imagine if he releases this latest update then says "fuck it, I'm done". Sure there will be people who say the game is fine as it is and worth every penny. But there will be a lot who are angry and feel like they've been denied something they were promised. Yes this is down to a complete sense of entitlment in some of the fans, but one which has been instilled to a certain degree by the to-do list and catagorising the current release as an alpha. In that case it is hard to blame them for feeling hard done-by. Even if more temperate people like you would be happy with it, it is surely easy for you to see how others may not be.

Again, just playing devils advocate here. I have no stake in Minecraft whatsoever and am vaguely intrigued by it. Alas I have not enough time for that sort of thing, having barely enough for more linear, non-sandbox stuff I already own.

I was gonna compare these guys to Hijacking Terrorists, but then realized that Terrorists do the horrible things they do because they believe in their cause, twisted as it may be. These Fuckers have no cause, no beliefs. they're just doing it for their amusement, using the updates to a game (made by ONE GUY, not a company or anything) as a shitty excuse. so to compare them to Terrorists actually INSULTS the Terrorists, if that even seems possible!
Actually, Mojang specifications now consists of 6 people but only 4 of them actually help develop the game.

It seems counter-productive, DDoS'ing the website of what you want updates for. Now Notch has even more to do, on top of keeping the updates coming, finding an office, more coders, graphics designers, reading the forum for bright ideas (100,000+ people keep suggesting stuff, there's gotta be a golden egg in a sea of bad, unbalanced ideas) he has to fix his website (or speak and work with the hoster to fix it)

This seems like the bastard child of Operation Payback, but that was the right reasons.

This is going "Update your game Q.Q".

Also bringing it down is just annoying alot of innocent people, this is a stupid thing and is probably not being done by the proper "old" anons, just newfags, old anons do things for the right reasons, not something as petty as this.
I was just gonna say that. /b/ was better back when it wasn't popular. Back then, there were no trolls, just anonymous.

I can see this happening, over a week millions of people try and fail every day to buy the game. Finally the servers are back on track and Notch cashes out with millions.

And it's working fine right now.

These attackers are nothing more than jerks with a self-entitlement complex. All they care about is getting stuff for free. Notch has NO LEGAL OBLIGATION to give free updates at a regular interval. When you buy Minecraft, as I have done, you buy the game as is, with the promise that any updates (IF ANY) will be free. He doesn't specify when he will update it, how often he will update it, or what the updates are about.

This attack is nothing more than the ultimate hissy fit from man-children who are emotionally deficient, even if they are technically proficient (although a DDOS isn't extremely hard to pull off). They are sabotaging themselves, and their stated "goal".

Simply put, they're just a bunch of spoiled whiny brats. But who cares? These sorts of people fail miserably in real life, and are far, far, far, far, far too cowardly to ever confront Notch face to face. No, these hackers hide behind their computer screen, whilst simultaneously smearing bacon grease all over the obese pimply faces, laughing at their supposed "triumph", when the fact is that Notch will make more money and be far more successful than these hackers will EVER BE.

Or this whole thing is nothing more than attack on Notch by his competitors. That is also a possibility.

If you think minecraft isn't giving you enough free updates, DEAL WITH IT. Simply don't play Minecraft and don't recommend it. But they shoudln't try to wreck the whole thing just because they're immature brats.

THIS is why i call Anonymous a bunch of internet terrorists, when they see something they don't like, they DEMAND their way and destroy whatever is in their way to getting it.

it's like a 5 year old with billions of dollars and access to a personal army... that's what Anonymous is...

and these people are acting JUST like Anonymous, even if they claim to not be apart of them
They are self-identifying DDOSers, how can you even start talking about Anonymous here? That becomes a mute point as soon as they stepped forward.
i never said they WERE Anon, i said they were ACTING like them...

throwing temper tantrums for not getting their way and doing things just because they seem "funny"... its the same thing
