Minigames from HELL that you finally completed

Yello Escapees,

Today I want to talk about a little fun thing known as minigames (last thread was apparently a few years ago or dead). Be they obligatory or completely optional, minigames can be a fun distraction, challenge your senses or makes you wanna pour acid on the next person you meet, or drown them in the Canal next to my place because they are INFURIATING T_T (the games, not the people... hopefully).
But the moment when you finally beat them, then one is at the uttermost peace within him.

So which are your minigames from hell that you finally beat?

I'll start with Final Fantasy X-2 HD remaster (Vita version). My story begins with Chapter 2 when you go to the Thunder Plains (completely optional mind you). These plains are... well under constant siege by lightning (not the FF13 trilogy one because that would be.... interesting to say the least). But fear not there are lightning rods which direct the lightning towards them so everyone is safe from harm (except fiends of course). Now there is a guy in these fields who wants you to help him calibrate these towers. Of course you say yes because... that is what a protagonist does right :D.

In total there are 10 towers and 3 types of minigames with varying degrees of difficulty.
To sum them up:

Yuna: basically you see buttons (up, down, left, right , square, etc...) and you need to remember them and then replicate the sequence (the 10th tower is also like that but in reverse so 'triangle up down' needs to be entered as 'down up triangle'. This is VERY easy because you can pause the game :p. The difficulty lies in the number of buttons you need to remember which progressivly become bigger.
30 sequences needs to be completed and a total of 3 misses is tolerated.

Paine: you see 3 random buttons on the screen which drop down from the upper to lower part of the screen. at the 'last' moment one of these 3 buttons flickers and that is the one that you need to press. Again you need 30 succesful hits and a maximum of 3 misses are allowed. The difficulty lies in the speed of the descend of the buttons. Not too hard.

Rikku: you see a button, you press it as quick as possible. Again 30 hits are needed and 3 misses allowed. The closer you get to 30, the narrower the time window is for the button press.

Here lies the most frustrating minigame that I recently played: Tower 7 (Rikku max difficulty)
Here you need to press TWO buttons at the same time. Always one with the left hand (arrow buttons and 'L') and one with the right hand (figure buttons and 'R').
Normally this wouldn't be so hard if not for the INHUMANE SPEED you need to press those buttons between hits 25-30. And if your nervous like me then you accidentaly press the wrong button at hit 29 because 'L' and 'Left' al start in my head with an L so my brain commands the wrong freaking finger. Or more often than not i'm almost always a millisecond too late or the game just refuses to register the fact that I did press the right buttons.

But after 30 tries I finally beat it (it felt like 300 times to me :p). I felt like GOD.

So what are your minigames from hell that you finally BEAT (beating is key here :D).

Most of the arcade games from Bully drove me nuts until I finally conquered them all.

Especially the Monkey Poo Flinger game... damn that game!

While I haven't actually finished it, I have got past what is apparently the most difficult level of drinking game in Watch_Dogs. It was rather frustrating to say the least.

The arm-wrestling in Witcher 2.

Specifically the one with the dwarf in chapter 2. It was designed for an analogue stick, so doing it with a mouse is a huge pain.

Hacking in Alpha Protocol.

Similar reasons. You have to manipulate two cursers at the same time. It's designed to be done with two analogue sticks. But on PC you have to use the mouse for one and the keyboard for the other. Tried it like three times, then just decided not to bother hacking anything. Didn't end up mattering since I got sick of the game by the second level or so.

The first thing I thought about when I saw your title was FFX, then I saw you talking about FFX-2, was a little surprised you didn't mention the prequel XD.

Anyways....
The FREAKIN COLOSSEUM MINIGAME (I think this counts as one):
Basically you capture 10 of almost every monster there is in the game, and if you think that's daunting enough, wait till you get to catching good ol Simugh and some other rare thingamajibs like Great Malboros that open the fight with bad breath, you need to be very decently leveled to even think about finishing this, and even more so for the boss that follows.

Tidus Chocobo riding hell:
God... I don't remember the details, I think you needed to get a time of 0:00. Why is this crazy? Because you're in a race against a freaking clock! You basically have almost no room for error, you need to avoid birds and collect time boosters while racing against another person who will try to screw you over.

Other than that, the rest were actually quite easy in comparison, for me at least. 200 lightning jumps was just the case of finding the right spot and rhythm, butterfly catching I nailed in a few tries as well.

I don't know if it was something to do with the fact that I was playing the PC version of the game but that stupid rolling rock dodging thing in FFVII.

I hate having action segments in a game that is primarily focused on non-action RPG segments for most of the game but then having it be annoyingly difficult just made me hate it, at the same time though I really wanted to get past it so I eventually did.

I'm like 40% sure that it's just the PC edition that suffers this problem but I wouldn't know since I never got that far on the PS1 version of the game.

The R/C Helicopter thing in GTA: San Andreas is incredibly annoying and actually made me stop playing the game. I tried it again over 2 year later, and finally completed it. The only mission more annoying in that game is when you follow the train with Big Smoke. That guy can't shoot for shit!

Because I will never have the patience - what reward does completing the arcade machines actually give?

It was a while ago that I did it so I can't quite remember, you have to beat them to get 100% completion though

Surprisingly, I actually never lost to someone in that mini game more than once. But yeah, the controls for arm wrestling on PC were absolutely horrible.

Personally, though, I hated Dice Poker more. It was awesome in the first game, and I spent dozens of hours just playing it for fun. Sure, there was a lot of randomness, but the odds seemed mostly even (except for against certain characters like de Wett), the two rounds gave some strategy in choosing how aggressive or passive to be, and there were certain decisions that were favored in different scenarios, so it was fun to try figuring out which decisions would most commonly yield a desired result. Best of all, it never was a serious money sink, so it felt like an enjoyable diversion from the rest of the game, and it often felt like just enjoying a friendly game with one of Geralt's friends.

In Witcher 2, though, they decide to limit it to one round (removing what little strategy there was), place the odds further against the player, and then make the AI more aggressive in their bidding. In other words, they designed it specifically to beat the player and then take a lot more money every time it beat them. And that's not even counting how annoying the camera angle was. The whole mini game seemed as if it was hand crafted to be as big of a pain as possible and was just an annoying waste of time and money (and boy did it take a lot of money from me!) until the game randomly decided to let the player move on and get whatever reward came at the end, if there even was one. I can't entirely remember if there ever was a significant reward. What's worse is that, because it was so heavily randomized, when I did finally complete it, I had absolutely no satisfaction at all in completing it.

On a more positive note, one mini game that felt like it was from hell but only due to my own stupidity was Insurance Fraud in Saints Row 3. For some reason, I completely missed that pressing the attack would naturally throw you in front of a car to be ragdolled with the greatest efficiency. As a result, I tried using the dodge move to get in front of speeding cars but constantly missed or barely got anything when I did hit them. I spent a couple hours cursing at the screen and thinking it was a horribly designed activity in an otherwise great game. Then I went to take out my anger one a cop while still in the activity, but when I hit attack, I dove and everything made sense. I spent a good while laughing at myself after that, and it actually became one of my favorite activities in the game (second only to Tank Mayhem).

The horseshoe game in RDR is a pain in the ass. The knife game is annoying as well. Card games and liar's dice I'm totally behind though.

I was specifically talking about minigames that you completed. I never could do chocobo hell or lightning jumping or monster catching so for me those don't count for me :p

Horseshoes was pretty easy if you've ever tossed a horseshoe IRL, the mechanics in-game is quite close to the real life mechanics.

I just finished another playthrough of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, and I finally managed to get 1500 points in the horseback archery minigame in the first, and a perfect score in the two shooting galleries in the second. I never used to be able to do that, so it seems my archery skills have improved over the years.

Does my completionist heart proud, it does.

Do you tilt a stick and press X in real life as well?

Mortal kombat's Test your might. I might have completed the fourth one, but I gave up on the last challenge. It's just so dumb, so is any mini-game that involves button-mashing.

I second this!! I loved it so much in the first game, it was the single best feature for me.

The swinging motion is similar to the movement of the analog stick, matched up with aiming between the horseshoe's tips and the perfect release is very similar to the method of tossing shoes in real life.

Yakuza 2. Albatross Akagi. Let's see if I can describe this adequately.

You're in a golf range and at the end of the range is a windmill-like spinner with 4 targets on the circumference, 2 worth 100 points and 2 worth 50 points. You're given 10 shots and you have to score 800 points. In other words, you're only allowed to miss at most 2 shots. Also, the wind changes every time you retry. The spinner spins pretty fast too.

Thank God for online guides or I would have never finished this sidequest.

American Baseball from the same game too as well. Those pitches are ridiculous. One of them in particular literally flies off the top of the screen and you basically just have to trust your instincts.
