I will consider the true Halo dead after Reach, but I will probably buy a game or two to see how Microsoft handles it. Theyre a huge company, they could do some good work, but I really wont hold my breath.

Bungie, knowing their days were at an end, prepared. Their freedom from the Dark Lord Microsoft was soon. But they left their bastion child. A bittersweet trade-off. A paragon above it's previous siblings. This paragon was blessed with a magic so powerful that should it be recreated over and over, the abominations spawned would be cursed to mediocrity, scrutiny, and a fate worse than death.
And that my child, is how Halo 200: Master Chief Curb-stomps Alien Terrorists in a Planet That Looks a Lot Like Afghanistan and Soviet Russia came into existence.

And another publisher starts mimicking Kotick's greed mongering. He has laid out and expanded upon the blueprint for corporate game development, and everyone else will eventually follow suit. The money is just too damn good. Nevermind that the games suffer, the employees suffer, and the consumers suffer.

Everyone just laughs at Bobby, but he is going to ruin the mainstream game industry.

I think it might be best we actually wait for the first non-Bungie Halo FPS before we make that sort of decision.

You know what they say about prejudging.

It makes a Pre out of Judge Judy and...wait, that's not right.

Halo series was always generic and a clone game, just like CoD: MW1&2. It's games like these that are ruining the industry imo, and players that play them too.

Thats more than 60% of the 'hardcore' industry.........
If we take that out of the equation then we're left with only 40% of that and a shitload of casuals.

Your logic would only destroy the gaming market and get rid of a master piece.
Plus your logic states that every FPS is a doom clone.

And please don't hide behind the "its my opinion" bullshit. Thats a real low statement there.

Seconded. One Halo game a life time was more than enough imo. How about lets see some real innovation in the FPS genre.

You're thinking of assumptions. They make an ass out of U (you) M (and) a ption (potion).

OT: Nintendo was smart enough to let Mario, Zelda, and Samus take breaks between their adventures. Sega didn't with Sonic, now look at him (and Sonic 3-D) and their system.

I also liked how they cited CoD and not Madden. People buy them, a lot, but not every Maden fan or CoD fan buys the game every year. And the ones that do sell the versions they don't like back and flood the market with used games. You don't like used games on the market, make games that people will feel bad about selling back (i.e. not every year re-hashes).

This. I love the Halo story, but there is no way 343 will meet let alone exceed me expectations for the series. If it becomes an annualised thing the novelty will wear off.

Insert identical generic, baseless accusation against whatever type of game it is you enjoy playing, because it's equally relevant.

So Microsoft wants to mirror Activision's Call of Duty plans. They want to take their big money maker, farm it out to other dev teams for faster releases, and watch the fanboys go apeshit every time.

Whoopdeeshit?

Well there's always a chance that it might be good, despite all the negativity. A good game can be made in under 2 years sometimes if enough staff are on it.

Microsoft is making it painfully clear that they fully intend to run that series right into the ground. It must be rather horrifying to be a Bungie employee right now. It's like watching your child get sold into slavery or something.

I don't mind if they continue to release Halo games,(Not annually) as long as they don't have 343 try to continue the same style of gameplay as Bungie's Halo games. I don't want 343 to become Treyarch.

They can go ahead and make Halo related games like Halo Wars and other types of games(Reasonable things). They can even continue to make Halo Shooters as long as they are something different from the original series. Maybe a Third-Person shooter, or be Cover-based, or class based(ala Battlefield).

I'll be on board with more Halo as long as it does not turn into Call of Duty

Well Halo has reached its pinnicle with Reach. Anything 343 Industries will do will just ruin the Halo franchise.

Same here (Recollect Reach!!! :p ), I like to think that Bungie finished their run with Halo in a dignified manner by making the pinnacle of Halo games before leaving.

I won't rule out the possibility that the next "Halo" game will be good. In fact, it may be great. But how long will that keep up? Microsoft needs to liven up the 360 library in my opinion. Halo, Fable, and Gears are what they're running with now, and quite frankly it's disheartening that their most successful franchise runs the risk of being overdone under the guise of "for the fans" when it's really just a guaranteed money-machine.

I'm not really a "Halo fan," but I give Bungie a lot of credit for what they've done through being a part of the game and not just dropping it like a dead trout. The premise of Microsoft holding the reigns tighter and enacting a Call of Duty approach to the series opens up a possible future of "Gee, another Halo. Surprise, surprise." Bungie may not have cranked out Halo games like a copy-and-paste, but who's to say that ODST would not become the sixty-dollar norm?

If this is done itll be like dividing by zero inside 343 studios and soon the black hole that consumed 343 will spread to all corners of the gaming world until the entire industry is sucked into its own failure.

True, but always remember, this is Microsoft we're talking about. They'll find something to fuck up.

Eh, they're not as bad as the people who claim to be better yet berate everyone else for liking a certain game series.
