Hrm. Not overly impressed with their optimization efforts if that setup only produces Medium quality graphics.

Gosh darn you, I wanted to be in the Beta! I signed up and they didn't let me in!
*weeps*
Anyway.
I played the demo at PAX last year, I can only assume this is a better version of what was available there.
Color me jealous.
And it got delayed into June, woe is us who are not in the Beta.

Err... perhaps I wasn't clear in my meaning. I said that I put the graphics quality up to maximum ("ultra") and it still ran fine. Better than I expected actually, especially considering those rather steep system recommendations they put out.

Medium was what the graphics settings defaulted to before I started messing with them.

It did autoset to Medium. Probably wouldn't have done that without a reason. How well does it seem to handle multiplayer?

Multiplayer?

The closest thing to multiplayer in the game are what they're calling "social features". Basically leaderboards and the ability to create time trials in game that then appear in other player's games allowing them to compete.

Those all work fine as far as I can tell, although they're of little interest to me.

Ugh, every time i look at the visuals the more jarring it gets. In the original, the city was this almost perfect dystopia, squeaky clean, yet felt like a real place. Now that they've set high-gloss up to eleven, it feels artificial to me. Like something pulled outta late TRON.
Hope it presents itself better in motion.

OT: What about skill trees? From what i've heard so far, they're pointless at best, unless you are eager to break the flow and engage yourself with enemies.

Some of the earlier reports I read said a few things about multiplayer. Newer reports say that it was scaled way back. Which is odd considering the developer and the publisher.

Skill trees? What skill trees?

But seriously, after maybe 3 hours, you can get every upgrade worth having. The system may as well not exist.

Yeah, there's an upgrade screen and yeah, it's rather token.

Get the quick turn ability and the roll and you're all set. You can do that in about 15 minutes after you're done with the intro/tutorial.

The rest are unimportant or just minor conveniences. A couple of combat moves, some damage boosts, health upgrades and some gear upgrades that allow you to access new areas, which I'm pretty sure you get for free at certain parts of the game.

I'm pretty sure it's only in there so they can give you XP for collectibles and the non-mission activities.

Really?

I've been following this pretty closely and never saw any mention of actual multiplayer from anyone involved in the game. Just some vague stuff about "online features", which would seem to be the leaderboard business.

I'm guessing what you saw was speculation. Or maybe it was considered at some point then discarded.
