Ok this is my second try at a review, my first being incredibly rubbish thanks to not knowing BB Code.
Now onto the Review.
Mirror's Edge is a First Person Parkour Game developed by DICE and publishbed by EA.
The game is original but there are some major flaws that stop it from being really really good.
Graphics: Powered by the Unreal Engine 3, this game has really really good graphics and it shows with the simple colours and the amazing sterileness help with the gameplay, especially the colour red. The models could have been made better though as they don't look that good. Also, Why couldn't the cutscenes have been in the engine, there is no reason to make ripoff japanese anime cartoon style ones just for level loads because you didn't know how to use the proper cutscene making thing.
Sound: The Sound is just brilliant, making a game with such brilliant sound is hard, but this game does it right with the best sound and sound effects you will ever hear. The bullets sound real and Faith, your 'blob' of a main character shows that she is running and does get tired (and is apprantly a master of reincarnation).
Characters and Story: This is one of the games failing points. At the start your sister is framed for murder. By Who and Why you do find out but everything else? Nope, that isn't said. Who's this Merc guy? Doesn't say. Why does this city hate runners (you play as one)? No idea. The game really can't elaborate at all and the fact that it the crappy voice acting for the characters takes over, this game just seems really drab and the only reason to get it is for the gameplay.
Gameplay: The Jumping, Crouching and Turning 180 degrees take the center stage while attacking is limited to one trigger. The Control Scheme works and it may not be great for some, but it is for normal people who need priority towards jumping and crouching. The 'bullet time' makes a showstopping appearance but I didn't use it, mostly because I didn't need it.
Lasting Appeal: There is one thing I'm going to say, THIS GAME IS SHORT!, 9 chapters and a prolouge/tutorial isn't enough. It took me 6 - 7 hours to complete this game. If it was multiplayer I wouldn't have minded as much. But it isn't. So damn.
Overall I'm going to give this game a 7/10. Why? It's short, but it looks and plays like a charm. The characters are bland and shallow, and half the story is unexplained.
Thanks for Reading.
