I have run into the, "I play COD so I am an expert at guns," type. Luckily they were reasonable and they willingly let me fill them in on the actual characteristics of the guns they were discussing.

I hate when people assume that's the only thing I do or use a computer for. I repair radars and 3D printers, and spend a lot of my work time and free time on a computer. I do a lot more than play some stupid mmo and eat Cheetos.

Also, everyone I've tried to get into gaming at all always assumes they are all super complicated, and just refuses to try things I recommend.
This. A million time this. 'Oh, what have you been playing recently?', 'Stop playing games and do something else'. Yes, It is possible to use computers for other things than games. I have no idea why is it so hard for people to realise that, and they act so surprised when I tell them I don't have a game I'm currently actively playing. Like, what else is there to do, right? Good lord.

Also, when people automatically assume since I played 350 hours in Warband I have now apparently graduated Computer Mechanics, which I believe someone in this thread has already pointed out but I'm too lazy to quote them.

The part about gamers being fat-lazy-asocial people is one I disagree with too, but it doesn't really bug me as much since I am practically a sociopath who fits the description, but I can sympathize with you if you actually don't.

The whole "You must not have a life" thing.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm living and breathing, so why is it that just because I don't go to too many parties that I have no life.

UThat we are all a hive mind or something that all have the same opionin as one another. You like games so you like COD and Mario, I even get it from other gamers you prefer playing on the PC you must be an elitist or you like Zelda you most be a Nintendo fanboy

Violent Games = Violent people.
No. Violent Games = Ignorant/Desensitized people - IF they're something like...under 25. That's all. Playing CoD doesn't make me want to stab my muslim cousins. Playing CoD doesn't make my white cousins want to shoot their bullies.

People have said this before but..

"Wow you play games? I'm really surprised you're not fat or lazy, and that you have friends. Wait, what was that? You're not extremely awkward in front of women and can actually approach and have a conversation with one? And you go outside? and work out? Theres no WAY someone like yourself can be a gamer!"

That because we're "nerds," we like to watch the god-damn Big Bang Theory! In truth, any self respecting nerd watches Community.
That is unless you can't stand a single person in community.

No gamer stereotypes really bother me, don't care what people think about me.

I do grow wary of the "gamers are training to kill by using these murder simulators", yeah, I have never fired a gun in my life, have no clue where I would get one but playing a game will definitely make me into Rambo.

Well, people tend to assume that just because I'm a gamer, I must be some sort of computer wizard. I can see why they might come to me for some slightly-above-basic computer help if I were a PC gamer, but I'm not. I own a PS3, and frankly, I barely know anything about computers. That still doesn't stop people from asking me for computer help for the 10th time in one day, but oh well. There are worse gamer stereotypes people could apply to me, I suppose.

That because I play violent video games, I am becoming desensitized to violence and I'm eventually going to freak out an kill everyone I know. First, I hate any sort of violence in real life, I could barely go through black hawk down without leaving the room. I am also sure that I will never ever kill anyone most likely.
