I was watching the History channel the other day and a program came on about Albert Einstein. I

never really knew much about him but had the idea in my head of the kind old German guy. It came

up during the course of the show that he was a pretty awful family man. He cheated on his wife

constantly and in fact wanted her to sign a contract at one point that said she shouldn't expect

sex, or talk to him without him talking to her and she had to prepare and serve him his meals in

his study. I was very shocked by this.

So I ask, have you ever found out something about a famous person that shocked you, good or bad?

- Abraham Lincoln didn't believe blacks were equal to whites.
- Robert E. Lee thought that blacks were equal as human beings and detested slavery. He just thought that they would be assimilated into white society over time, slavery would eventually come to pass as time went on, and so forth.
- Adolph Hitler had Jewish commanders.
- George Washington was a terrible tactician.
- The partially blind Spartan from the movie 300, refered to as Dilios with the real name of Aristodemus, was sent back to shame and public humiliation for having left the battlefield.

Sean Connery is a sexist pig.

He has no qualms about hitting a woman when 'they step out of line'.

Not really a misconeption, but it certainly reduces his 'awesome factor'.

I checked spenny from kenny vs spenny's wikipedia page to see what he has been up to since the show ended, and it said he had died earlier today of cock and ball torture. This was my reaction

I later found out it wasn't true but that was still a shock

I'm not sure if it's really an obscure truth or a common misconception but most people I know don't know it...

Thomas Edison was a giant piece of shit who never really invented much of anything important and stole the pattens on most of "his" inventions. He also was part of the reason why Nikola Tesla never got the attention he deserved due to Tesla being far smarter than him and developing a superior form of electrical current and attempted to give free electricity to the world. Edison didn't like the idea of not getting any money for something so he spent a vast part of his career when he wasn't stealing people's pattens (Tesla was responsible for most of the stuff he's credited for) by convincing the scientific community that Tesla was a crazy and dangerous madman. Oh and he also killed animals just to run smear campaigns against Tesla as well, then say "At least I know I never invented something that kills" (or something to that effect). So not only is he a giant cockhead, he's a hypocrite too. History loves remembering the assholes, don't they?

Oh and another little bit about Einstein.... he also stole a lot of the whole "relativity" ideas from a guy named Henri Poincare. Poincare was the leading scientist in all of relativity during the 19th century until Einstein came along. They both held meetings with fellow scientists to discuss their theories but not once did Einstein ever cite Poincare as a source for his writings. So... yeah, he's an ass too.

He also found geography too hard, so he opted to get into physics.

Xerxes was not rally an 8 foot tall tranny, but rather a wise and bearded man with awesome beard-locks. Seriously, look up a picture of him.

Mozart wasn't a musical prodigy- he just worked harder than absolutely everyone else (because of his slightly crazy music teacher dad).

He is once said to have stated that he was insulted when people called him a prodigy because it undermines his passion for his work.
