OT; Paris Hilton isn't as dumb as she looks; she's got a multi-million dollar brand going on. Sure, she used daddies money and a porno tape to get there, but she can still keep it going.

I still think she needs to be taken behind the sheds and shot though.
I was going to mention her but since you did. She's also surprisingly humble despite the way the media and her reality shows portrays her.

Lou Reed went out with a Mexican transsexual called Rachel and it is impossible to found out what happened to her/him and Reed never talks about his homosexual past etc(Is this common knowledge?)

John Lennon cheated on Yoko during his "Lost weekend" orchestrated by her.

Walt Disney hated children And once planned to build his own city where he would be the unquestioned leader.

I love this thread...

The originator does a fine job of citing the source (History Channel) then reporting what they said. From there on, everyone else just brings up whatever crazy crap they've heard from God-knows-where and reports it as fact (some of it is true, some is complete bullshit).

This thread should come with a warning tag reminding people not to believe everything they read from random strangers on the Internet.

I'm not sure if it's really an obscure truth or a common misconception but most people I know don't know it...

Thomas Edison was a giant piece of shit who never really invented much of anything important and stole the pattens on most of "his" inventions. He also was part of the reason why Nikola Tesla never got the attention he deserved due to Tesla being far smarter than him and developing a superior form of electrical current and attempted to give free electricity to the world. Edison didn't like the idea of not getting any money for something so he spent a vast part of his career when he wasn't stealing people's pattens (Tesla was responsible for most of the stuff he's credited for) by convincing the scientific community that Tesla was a crazy and dangerous madman. Oh and he also killed animals just to run smear campaigns against Tesla as well, then say "At least I know I never invented something that kills" (or something to that effect). So not only is he a giant cockhead, he's a hypocrite too. History loves remembering the assholes, don't they?

Oh and another little bit about Einstein.... he also stole a lot of the whole "relativity" ideas from a guy named Henri Poincare. Poincare was the leading scientist in all of relativity during the 19th century until Einstein came along. They both held meetings with fellow scientists to discuss their theories but not once did Einstein ever cite Poincare as a source for his writings. So... yeah, he's an ass too.
One of the big reasons Tesla wasn't credited for his inventions is because his patents were being reviewed by government for any dangerous inventions for some asslong time, so they gave most of the credit to Edison because they didn't have any proof that Tesla had the ideas first, since the government wouldn't show anyone else the patents.

Yes, but he thought against slavery later. Also, his first objective had been to preserve the union.
He was against slavery, but at the same time he never believed that the entire problem could be solved without the blacks being deported back to Africa.

The dude's a misogynist.
Who's been married for 31 years, has never once been charged with hitting anyone and has said that he wouldn't not hit a woman if she was really out of line.

I'm sort of hard pressed to call that misogyny. He's just saying that if all else fails he'd hit a woman, but he'd make sure it's less hard than he'd hit a man.

Honestly. That's not really misogyny.

And that makes it ok?

I think we have different ideas on what a misogynist is.

Whether he's been charged or not, he's all for spousal abuse.

Wasn't that over confusion with French and English inches and feet or soemthing stupid like that?

Apparently Ghandi used to like to sleep naked with young girls also naked including his niece. I do say apparently.

Just a little.

Hold on a minute here. Wait, just one second.

There's a HUGE difference between saying your last resort against a woman is hitting her, and saying that all women need a slap to keep them in line. That latter is misogyny - and revolting. The former...well, haven't you ever struck a member of your family when you've been really pissed off?

You do believe in innocent until proven guilty, or at least charged?

No confusion.

It was just a British propaganda campaign against him, portraying in him in an unfavourable image etc.

He was average height for anyone at that time.

I know he was average height but I thought they had different measurements(and obviously a bit of the good old prop) maybe not I am not sure I do know he was normal for the time period though.

Would you slap a woman that hasn't touched you, but is just using words?

Whether he's been charged with doing it or not, his opinion is that it's perfectly acceptable to slap a woman who is no threat to him physically.

If all other alternatives fail and there has been plenty of warning
Are you saying there is NEVER a point where a man should hit a woman? Because how the hell is he meant to defend himself?

I'd also point out that most women can take down most men with one single move; be it stab, smash or knee.

How about a man found today with serious injuries after being beaten by a woman? [http://www.leics.police.uk/canyouhelp/appeals/8510_police_appeal_for_witnesses_after_man/]

Is he a misogynist if he fought back?

I used to think Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (the guy who wrote the Sherlock Holmes books) was pretty cool, but it turns out he used to believe in all sorts of weird stuff, and was very derisive of the logical deduction method which Holmes used to solve his cases.

Nietzsche wasn't a total loner. Yeah he was pedantic and a misogynist who alienated his closest friends and got rejected twice by the same lady, but he got laid tons and tons of time. I'm guessing that's simply because of his awesome facial hair. I think his mustache might just beat Chuck Norris' beard.
