Alright, the gist of this topic is that I want your opinions on game reviews that you believe were way unfair. This can be in the instance that a game was given too low a score, or even too high. One example that I'll give (for my opinion) is Alpha Protocol. I realize that it has it's flaws, but I think that it's a good enough game to deserve a 6 or 7. But definitely not the lowly 2 that it was given from Destructoid.

I suggest you don't use Metacritic or Destructoid as a form of measurement to what the masses think of the game.

Either ways I think the topic would be better if the title is called "Under-appreciated Games." To me, it's Sine Mora. Our society today might think the gameplay is now archaic, but I just like when such games are refined with today's technology. It may not be as great as Einhander, but I would consider it it's spiritual successor.

Every sequel past assassins creed 2.
The rest just felt the same, a few minor innovations but nothing to really feel like a different game than just an expansion.

Honestly, I never use Metacritic or Destructoid. Hilarious enough, looking back at the article, it was from our own Mr. Sterling. So, the rating it was given was pretty unsurprising. I was just trying to make an example. And it's not just about unappreciated games, it's about the overpraised as well.

Bioshock 2

Not exactly that it was misjudged or anything, I just felt that alot of critics high opinion of its predecessor led to alot of unfair criticism in my opinion.

Yeah, when I played through Bioshock 2 I could tell something just wasn't right. I couldn't tell what it was, but I just didn't like the game as much.

The first game that jumps to mind is Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.
The game was panned a lot of places, but I found that a fair bit of the dialogue was amusing and self referential. Happy to point out that Sonic had seen better days.

And since the game never got a follow-up, we can safely assume that the entire cast died at the end except for Eggman, who finally took over the world. I count this as a plus.

I've actually never heard of this game, but the first thing that comes to mind is Sonic in The Dark Brotherhood from Elder Scrolls....and now I have to go pitch an idea to Sega and Bethesda.

FFXII has been pretty widely panned, when all it really did was make a few pacing mistakes and have a shit storyline. It was pretty awesome if you didn't take it too seriously and try to understand the storyline.

Yeah, but remember, you're talking about a JRPG. The Story is about the best things that are going for them. I mean, I love them, but that's because they usually have nicely fleshed out plots. At least, that's been my experience.

God Hand got pretty well panned, and most folks I KNEW hated it.

I didn't play it for some time and I regretted that.

Talk about an amazing game.

Panned? It's got a 92 on Metacritic. It's got 61 positive reviews and 3 mixed. It's even got a pretty high user score with 7.7.

I think Test Drive Unlimited 2 got unfairly reviewed. It had it's fair share of problems for sure, but it was actually a pretty good game.

The Need for Speed Shift games were unfairly judged too. They were given great reviews even though they were both pretty terrible. The same can be said for several other more recent NFS games.

Usually you would be right, but personally I think this game shines in its innovative take on turn based combat. Some people claimed that the game would fight the battle for you if you let it, and they would be right for about the first five minutes, but after that you are actually forced to quickly and strategically make decisions in a way that most other RPGs don't.

Uh. Off the top of my head - Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age 2, Crysis 2, Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. Massively overrated games.
Huh, I never really thought of Dragon Age 2 as being overrated. It was decent, and rated as such. I haven't seen anywhere that it's been extremely praised.

Epic foreshadowing of Final Fantasy XIII? That combat system made me feel like I was sitting there doing absolutely nothing.

An apology to all involved but I spoke of FFXII (12) when I meant FFXIII (13). My bad for forgetting how roman numerals work......but to be fair they should just start from 1 again anyway lol

You Sir are entitled to your opinion, but I humbly disagree
