And since I started playing in a Jazz orchestra I've gotten hooked on it. I never hated it before just never got into it. But after playing it and understanding the composition, awww insanely good stuff.
I have never given jazz a chance, could you possibly recommend a jazz artist you like?
John Coltrane and Miles Davis are a good place to start.
there is also Al Di Meola and Stanley Clarke and also to give a local person for the Escapist i'll say Branford Marsalis as well, tho Wynton is pretty good too
Roy Brown if liked the music from Fallout 3.

When I was about 10 or so, I could listen to Metallica and Ozzy without any real problems, but I totally hated bands that used growling as vocals.
Do you mean screamo singers Like in Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium?
Not really, still not into that style. I was refering to the style, say, Dimmu Borgir or Nile uses. It's a more deep, controlled style of growling. It's the style I now like the most in metal, shortly followed by the roars of James Hetfield and Tom Araya.

And I checked out Gangster's Paradise, and I do like it. Definately the best hip-hop song I've heared so far.

I didn't really care too much for electronic music. But about a year ago I started getting into it.

I've always been pretty open to music though. But every genre suffers from sturgeon's law.

When I was 13 I hated almost every kind of music. Now I listen to metal and rock every day for at least 4 hours.

I think you mean "screaming". "Screamo" is something different.

Here is an example:

Screamo (as far as I know Envy is screamo): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLyZNEfPqxw&feature=related
Screaming: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chSNremdkcc

Basically it comes down to the lyrics and the way they sing. As it says Screamo has emotional lyrics while in screaming it's about pretty much everything else (I don't say that screaming lyrics can't be about emotional stuff) For example the Trivium song "Down From the Sky" has punk influences.

Sorry but I just hate it when people mix something like that up.

I'd make the mislead love for musicians. I think I top it with britney spears.

On mislead hate... I never hated a type of music and then come to love it. Yes, that includes classical (i loved that since I was little).

I'm sorta the opposite, even though I grew up in the nineties, I discovered classic rock fairly early on and have been in love with it ever since. Occasionally I forget there are any good bands nowadays and have to be reminded.

Yes, its a shame when you end up hearing one thing from a genre, and thinking its all like that, for instance rap, its not all just guns n hos, and jazz isn't all just random trumpets, and country isn't all just about how great america is, even tho mah wife done left me.

I mean I heard this on the radio recently and never even realised it came under the banner of 'jazz'
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ekHCOh6OqqE&feature=related

Johnny Cash opened my eyes to country, with his covers of bands I already liked.

Also, I'd forever slip back to the classical station on GTA 3, its a shame they didn't include a classical station in every damn sequel, classical is so cheap to buy the rights to, and as I'm no connouseir, conoseur, dammit, expert, I'd just get an unknown orchestra do the recordings, we tried playing the London Philharmonic Orchestra's version of some known tunes at work, then some unknown Orchestra and it was pretty close.

I'd go as far as saying, although I hate manufactured pop, Girls Aloud seem to do it fairly well, I can't say I like em, but there seems to be catchy tunes done well and they've lasted, unlike so many of these talent show winners.

I will say that I generally struggle to enjoy foreign language vocals tho, I guess that's part of why opera doesn't really grab me.

Damn, along with the above guy and Britney, this could end up becoming a 'guilty pleasures' topic.

I was allways into hard rock/ metal and never had much interest in rap due to the popular misconception of it all being bitches, ho's, guns and bling. then I heard this song

Bring the noise [http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=RBA-xi8WuCU] and it introduced me to public enemy.

I never used to listen to rap/hip-hop, because of my brother. He was always listening to the gangsta stuff, guns drugs and hos, and that turned me right off. When I discovered groups like Fort Minor and Hilltop Hoods that actually had some meaning in their lyrics I got into that sorta stuff.

Breathe [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-D0NEjryAY] and Where'd You Go [http://video.google.com.au/videoplay?docid=1414747251708876747&ei=Sd5ySenMN4jKwgOBrfSeBA&q=where%27d+you+go&hl=en] are songs with some actual meaning in their lyrics. Enjoy.

After I started listening to that I found it easier to appreciate the skill in some rappers have, even if the words are worthless.

I used to think Elliott Smith seemed boring and nothing special. Don't know what turned me around.
