Has any one else read this series? A friend recently loaned me the books and they are effing amazing, I must say.
I finished not too long ago. It had just the right twists and a perfect ending. The writing is also awesome and the whole concept is just brilliant.
There are a few qualms.. like the main character being a tad on the emo side for the first book, but it really gets better.

Worth a read for a fan of fantasy/adventure. Not much of a romance novel though there are a few elements, it's not focused on it.

For anyone who has read it:
Kelsier <3

If you have read it, please discuss! What powers would you want? What did you think of the ending?
And use spoiler tags please!

The Mistborn books are seriously some of my favorites. Brandon Sanderson is a great author, and I highly recommended the trilogy. I have to say that this series had one of the best endings I have ever read in a book, everything fit together perfectly in the end.

The ending completely flumoxed me, even if the overarching plot was a little predictable.

However, having said that, the concept was fucking awesome (and despite me being a chemist, I was impressed), I mean, metal burning... (& potential addiction)

Personally, though, I liked Marsh as a character better.

Why do I feel he's equal parts twat & badass?

Bahaha. I can't blame you.
But he makes an awesome Emperor/King after Tindwyl. The scholarly side of him is more of the Hamletesque wimp.

Does sound intriguing, I must say.
Reckon it'd make a good summer series?
Absolutely! It's really worth a read and there are three books to keep your occupied during your summer read :]

Mistborn's probably my favorite book series. I don't really feel like Vin is emo in the first book. She's just dealing with deep seated issues. I think I would definitely want to be mistborn if I had the option. Inquisitors may be badass, but I wouldn't want to have the risk of being controlled like that. Feruchemists are pretty sick, too, but I'd rather fly around using bits of metal. lol I would go through so much metal.

They're really not that short.. but I suppose some read faster than others. It took me a good bit, but I don't like reading things in one sit down. It seems too brief. You get way into the characters and story when you draw it out and have a chance to think about it when you're not reading :]

In total it's about 1800 pages, so enjoy! It reads very well, and the action can be unrelenting at times (in a good way), and there's enough jargon to amuse, but not so much you forget and the same applies to cast list.

Actually, I was working at the time when I read them, so it was only the 45 mins over lunch that I read. Normally it takes me a week and a bit to finish a 500 page book, but this series was very good, so it was natural that I kinda raced through it. I got bollocked more than a few times for reading it while I was supposedly 'working'.

I loved them. The ending is one of the best plot twists I have ever read and the concept for the entire thing was great, with each of the three major 'metallic arts' notably different but interlinked at the same time. The way that Sanderson manages to get so much use out of a few simple concepts is brilliantly creative. The amount of applications he finds for simply pushing and pulling metal towards you is astounding.

The character development is great and it's amazing how much you end up caring about every one of them, even the minor ones. The plot escalates well over the series, with there constantly replacing the defeated enemy with a more formidable one.

Overall I would highly recommend Mistborn to anyone and am very excited for the release of "The Alloy of Law", the next in the series, which is set for release this November. Sanderson has also sold the film rights so fingers crossed the film will turn out well.

I would also highly recommend you read Sanderson's debut novel 'Elantris' if you haven't already. It's a standalone book thats not part of any series, but it really puts me in mind of what Yahtzee said about the original Portal, it's succinct and concise, with everything there that needs to be and no waste.

I originally encountered the author when he started ghost writing the finale of the wheel of time series, and stumbled across this series. Needless to say I wasn't worried about how he would handle the wheel of time after reading this series... because it is awesome. There are tons of great moments in the books combined with twists which I actually didn't see coming(and that doesn't usually happen to me), great characters and a brilliant ending.

I also like how the entire series is based on specific rules and nothing in the series ventures outside of these rules. Sanderson gets a big +1 from me for not using the "It's magic I can do whatever the hell I want" approach that I seem to see so often.

Oh and yeah, Kelsier <3. Sazed is pretty awesome too.

I read them after reading Sanderson's take on the Robert Jordan epic Wheel of Time. They are pretty awesome books.
